Love to travel? Love to cook? If your answer to these questions is yes, then pack your bags as we make our way across India, France and Switzerland, cooking up a storm as we go. These luxury culinary tours across India and Europe, paired with some of the best gastronomical delights of the region, are truly a foodie’s paradise!
Taking place in February 2015 and one of India's best luxury culinary tour, this 14 day food jaunt is led by Jonty Rajagopolan, an Indian food historian who will introduce you to a wide array of Indian food and cooking styles. From delicious and tangy street food bites, to food enjoyed by royalty- this tour ensures you experience it all.
True to its name, the Art of Living to Eat Culinary Tour celebrates the love of food and takes you across India from Delhi to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kolkata, and culminating in Hyderabad. Focused not just on food, this tour helps you understand the history of India and the impact of religion, customs, social practices and colonization on the food of the subcontinent as we know it today.
Begin your tour in Delhi, where you will stay in the plush Imperial Hotel, one of Delhi’s most luxurious and historic hotels, dating back to the colonial times. After a day’s stay in Delhi, take the flight to Ahmedabad where you will experience traditional Gujarati food like Dhokhla, Khandvi, Kachoris and Khaman. Apart from that, you’ll also get to savour street food from Sev Puri, Paani Puri, Pav Bhaji, Fafda-Jalebis, Sabudana Patties, to non-vegetarian delights such as Kheema Samosas, and Tangri Kebabs.
Back in Delhi dine at the city’s famous Indian Accent restaurant, a high end restaurant where you can enjoy contemporary Indian food. The following day, fly to Amritsar where after a visit to the Golden Temple you’ll visit an organic farm. Learn to fire up a tandoor, enjoy delicious Punjabi food and even attend a traditional Indian wedding.
After Amritsar, make your way to Kolkata, one of India’s most historic and colourful cities. Enjoy your time here as you dine with a Bengali family, and savour treats at Kolkata’s oldest confectioners Flury’s. Round off your trip to the City of Joy with a formal dinner at the Bengal Club.
Next on your itinerary is Hyderabad, where you’ll not only get to sample some great Hyderabadi cuisine, but also learn to cook it. Travel to the heart of the Old City to understand the concept of fasting versus feasting, while enjoying a plateful of Hyderabadi Biryani. Wind down with High Tea at the luxurious Taj Faluknama Palace and take back beautiful memories of your culinary journey through India.
