Off late, my family holidays have been trips to business hubs and metropolitan cities rather than sprawling meadows and hills; courtesy daddy dear’s meetings and conventions. And I am sure, with busier schedules and the not-so-welcome growing up, many people find themselves in a position similar to mine.

However, this time round it looks like I found the perfect way to make these seemingly boring business-cum-family holidays a lot of fun for the whole family. Hint? Hotels!

Hyderabad- The City of Nizams

Who can deny the joys of a nice swimming pool to laze around on a sunny day? Or say, the sheer pampering that awaits you at a spa. My ideas were limited to a few until I began my search for family resorts in Hyderabad (our next destination) and found a range of things to enjoy.

Remember, Hyderabad has no dearth of luxury hotels. However, the ones listed here are for a moderate budget and have a plethora of recreational activities especially for those looking to unwind. Here are my findings:

1. Lahari Resort

Situated in Bhanoor in central Hyderabad, this massive resort has excellent amenities and offers 60 well-appointed rooms. Lahari Resort is known for its courteous hospitality in Hyderabad. But what took my breath away is the range of fun activities one can enjoy here. Go Karting is an instant favourite. Kids, amateurs and enthusiasts can experience the thrill of racing on a 640 metre long track. The resort also has a separate swimming pool for kids with water slides (I wonder if I could pass off for a 14 year old!). Other games that one can enjoy include table tennis, bowling, snooker, paintball and cricket. All this with lush greenery to treat your eyes to!

2. Leonia Holistic Destination Resort

This luxurious holiday resort is located in the outskirts of Hyderabad and therefore is away from the humdrum of the city. There are a number of rejuvenating spa treatments available at the resort. At Leo Juventa, the medical centre, one can experience holistic health treatments like ancient Indian treatments, naturopathy, hydrotherapy, yoga and meditation and even a kids’ spa!

Food seems to be the other indulgence at the resort. Four differently themed restaurants serve the most delectable Mediterranean, Hyderabadi and Continental fare. On weekends, they also have ghazal performances at the poolside restaurant. There is a well-stocked restro-bar called Moments and a tavern-style lounge called Afterglow where guests can unwind over a couple of drinks.

Other than families, the resort is an excellent option for couples and friends. It undoubtedly has one of the most tastefully designed suites, some of them with plunging private pools and cascades.

3. Golkonda Resort & Spa

Golkonda Resort & Spa has everything from a beautiful location (beside Gandipet Lake) and world-class luxuries to a reasonable price, making it an ideal jaunt for families. A fitness centre, Kerala Ayurvedic treatments at the spa and luxury beauty salons at the resort are excellent ways of keeping yourself busy. The 44 villas at the resort are spell bounding and a treat to retire too. The resort also ranks high in dining. Lighthouse, a multi-cuisine restaurant is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal.
