This centuries-old tradition is believed to have started to revere the mythology of the Puranas, which states that while Gods and demons were fighting for the pot of Amrita (Elixir for immortality), drops of it fell on the four sacred sites, which today are the home grounds for the Kumbh Mela. Devotees believe, that this holy bath cleanses them of their sins and delivers them from evil.
Witness millions of pilgrims move towards the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati – Triveni Sangam, like waves. The passionate chants of Vedic mantras and religious hymns, the sounds of the spiritual music and the holy instruments, and the sights of sadhus and rishis with strapped hair and smeared in ash – would give you goosebumps.
A grand procession which arrives on elephants, horses and grand carriages, along with bands, marking the beginning of the fair.
The fair will be featuring 5 different cultural pandals, where series of cultural performances will take place.
The State Government will be setting up a magnificent laser light and sound show to delight the tourists who visit Prayagraj for this one-of-a-kind event.
