ADVENTURE
Planning a hilly retreat to escape the hectic city life and unwind amidst the picturesque surroundings? Here are some packing tips and a list of must haves for your next vacation to the hills.
1. Leather Jacket
In the cold weather you need clothes that will keep you warm and cosy. But they don’t have to be boring. A leather jacket will not only beat the cold, but also make an attractive style statement.
2. Windcheaters
The weather in high altitudes can be extremely harsh. Windcheaters will protect you against the severe weather conditions. Go for a hooded one, which is also rain proof.
3. Sweaters/Pullovers
Sweaters/Pullovers are available in soft cashmere, cotton, linen or wool. Choose from a range of colours and patterns.
4. Mufflers
A warm muffler around your neck will surely keep you nice and snug. Choose from a range of colours, and pair them with what you’re wearing to add a pop of colour.
5. Woollen socks
Pack enough woollen socks to keep your feet warm and comfortable.
6. Leg warmers
Apart from keeping your legs warm, leg warmers look extremely smart and will definitely turn heads around. Plush colours like red, pink and yellow will add brightness to your outfit.
7. Gloves
It’s an absolute torture when the cool wind or playing with snowballs causes frost bites. Keep them warm with a lovely pair of gloves. In extremely cold weather destinations, mittens are a better option to go for.
8. Thermal
A warm thermal can help you cut down on the number of layers you end up wearing. If the weather is not too cold, you could even skip wearing a pullover/sweater over your favourite shirt as the thermal will keep you sufficiently warm.
9. Beanie
Stay warm and stylish by flaunting a beanie that covers your ears. Pick a colour that will synchronise with the winter clothing colour palette, such as maroon, beige and cream.
10. Ear Muffs
Protect your ears from the cold with a nice pair of soft ear muffs.
11. Comfortable Walking Shoes
A trip to the hills calls for long walks and exciting activities like hiking, mountain climbing, etc. Make sure you carry a comfortable pair of walking shoes to avoid sore feet and blisters. When travelling to a destination where there is snow, it is recommended that you carry snow boots that prevent you from slipping.
12. Lip Balm/Sunscreen/Lotion
These skincare items will prevent dryness and sun exposure caused by the weather in the mountains. Opt for moisturizers that are rich in cocoa, body butter, soy milk or honey. A common misconception is that you don’t need to apply sunscreen when travelling to the hills. On the contrary, it is recommended that you apply one with an SPF rating suited to your lifestyle to prevent yourself from a sun burn.
13. Polarized Sunglasses
The sun is extremely bright in the mountains. Polarized glasses cut the glare and haze and will help you admire the beauty of the hills better.
14. Umbrella
The weather up in the hills is unpredictable. Make sure you carry an umbrella for the erratic weather.
15. Backpack
Roll your clothes and organise your belongings in a backpack for your mountain getaway. Make sure you pack in a well organised manner for ease of accessibility and weight distribution. Don’t forget to carry a water bottle since you would require it for those long walks or while hiking.
16. First aid kit (especially medication for altitude sickness)
The rocky terrain, uncertain weather and curvy roads in the hills can affect your health. Prepare a first aid kit comprising of all the relevant/prescribed medicines.
17. Camera
Take pictures of every beautiful moment of your trip so that you can relive the fond memories later. Don’t forget to pack spare batteries and an extra memory card.
Now that you have this handy packing list, go ahead and make the most of your trip!
