Why Singapore?

singapore

Well, because it’s an all-round destination perfect for any kind of traveller! The food, the shopping allurements, the almost familiar neighbourhoods, and a truly cosmopolitan vibe influenced by different global cultures, Singapore is a city that succeeds in charming everybody, irrespective of age. Why would you miss it, if you could have all of this and more in just under INR 25,000?

Getting There:

This blog doesn’t include the flight tickets to and from Singapore. That being said, Singapore is usually a direct flight away from any Indian metropolitan city. And a return flight ticket to the island city can cost anywhere between INR 12,000-33,000*, depending on the airlines, how much in advance the ticket was booked during the peak or non-peak seasons, and the city you fly out from.

Documentation and Visa for Singapore

Indians require a visa to enter Singapore, and the visa is usually applicable for a period of 30 days, with a validity of 2 years. Depending on the operator, a Singapore visa could cost anywhere between INR 1,500-2,500*.

Download the Singapore tourist visa form from the Singapore government website, and submit it along with the following documents:

Things to do in Singapore

Enjoy the Garden by the Bay

garden-by-the-bay

Take in the sights of the giant man-made trees at the Garden by the Bay, and treat yourself to a walk in the park at night—the trees come alive as the lights go on. The rides in the park, like the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, cost about INR 750 each, per head. The Sky Walk to get you close to the super trees costs INR 235 per head.
Cost: Approx. INR 1,175*

Find a cultural high on the streets

From the chimes of bells from the Indian temples and fragrance of incense from the Chinese temples to the vibrant shops and side cafes of the Arab quarter, you are assured of some amazing sights, smells, and sounds, and—if you have some money set aside for it—souvenirs too. Just ensure you have a good map and, well, even better footwear to set off into the exploration.

Walk into the National Museum

Get a dose of history on the cultural and traditional sides of Singapore, with a visit to its national museum. The Singapore History Gallery even has a guided tour at pre-set times on a daily basis.
Cost: INR 715*

Eat at Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre

A historical site and a national monument since 1973, the Lau Pa Sat houses 54 food stalls and has a seating capacity of 2,500. Savour the ambience first and then the food, which is incredibly cheap! Try the beef at The Beef House (Stall No. 17) or the salad at the Craft Salad Bar.
Cost: Approx. INR 700 for a full meal*

Where to eat

Singapore-style Ramen at the Amoy Street Food Centre offers a cross between wanton mee and mazesoba, all at about INR 516*.

The Roost’s Yin Yang Chicken Rice, at about INR 420*, is the juicy perfection of the light fowl in contrast to the fragrant rice. For calorie watchers, all of it is in a little less than 500 calories, too.

At Kush, try a hearty meal of the Skewer Bowl, a little over INR 560*, or the Wagyu Rib-eyes done to perfection—soft, tender, and medium rare in between well-smoked crusts—at about INR 2,800* for 250 g.
