Travelling to Hyderabad? It's Worth Taking Time out for These

My wandering heart hadn’t travelled for a while and I wanted to visit some place I’ve never been before. A lot of thought and discussions with friends made me head to the City of Nizams, Hyderabad. My sojourn to this city gave me great experiences, loads of pictures and of course, memories unlimited. With so many things to do in Hyderabad, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of my trip.

We started off with something rather un-touristy and went to watch a movie. Not just any movie but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. After lunch at Ohri’s, it was time to go around the city and explore the sights of Hyderabad. Char Minar was a disappointing sight as not much has been done to maintain its elegance and charm. However, the bazaars around, where I shopped for the famous Hyderabadi pearls, surely made up for it. Street side chaats and chai were on offer everywhere as we walked through the bazaars. My traverse through the markets brought me upfront with the old world charm that this city has.

The next stop was at Lumbini Park. The huge floral clock at the entrance left me awestruck. I’d never seen such a work of art before and was enchanted by the perfection and beauty of it. The grand entrance led to lush greenery and further, to the Hussain Sagar Lake.

The view of the palm trees overlooking the water was simply breathtaking. A ferry ride took us to the center of the lake to the Buddha statue. The lofty moonlit statue was a sight to watch and it also gave us some great photo opportunities. Some peaceful moments were spent strolling around the statue and admiring the lake views. It was time for dinner when we returned from the lake and on a friend’s recommendation, we headed to Dosa Plaza, Banjara Hills. The place had not four or five but over 100 varieties of dosas on offer. We were truly spoilt for choice.

The best was yet to come. After breakfast at Chutneys the next day, we headed to Snow World. There were ice tables and chairs and huge slides that took you to the depths of the snow. Getting in to igloos, indulging in snowball fights, making snowmen and devouring on hot coffee and chilled kulfi – this was just some of what we did. Don’t worry, they give you warm jackets and boots before you enter the winter wonderland. It took us some time to get inside as there was a long queue but the wait was worth it.

I know what you are thinking. 3 days in Hyderbad and no mention of Biryani? Well, I’d saved the best for the last.

My trip to Hyderabad came to an end at the famous restaurant chain, Paradise where I devoured some Hyderabadi Biryani. My last shopping binge was at the airport where I picked up boxes of Karachi Bakery biscuits that city is famous for.
