If you’re in the mood to for some downtime, away from the mundane big city life of Bengaluru, a weekend spent in the hills is just what you need. Make your way to Yercaud, the ideal weekend getaway in Tamil Nadu.

Tucked away in the Shevaroy Hills in the Eastern Ghats with a scenic hilly environment and cool temperatures, Yercaud is quite the popular tourist destination for those short weekend getaways that one requires to rejuvenate.

Things to Do in Yercaud

Trekking is a major activity in Yercaud with many expeditions organised by the Chennai Trekking club. As you trek your way through the hilly expanse, enjoy scenes of the Yercaud Lake along with the Killiyur Falls.

Pagoda Point and Bear’s Cave are other prominent spots to visit.

After you’ve built up an appetite trekking, sample some local food. I’d go with a plate of capsicum fries, a local delicacy. For something more filling, try the Egg Bonda (Mutta Bonda) and the green chilli fries with some chutney available at most roadside vendors.

A great time to visit Yercaud is mid-May. Not only is the weather great but it’s also festival season in the hills. The Yercaud Summer Festival is an entertaining week-long affair with dog shows, village fairs, flower shows and boat races.
