I am back with the second cut of the two-part series 20 Most Amazing Things to Do in Thailand. And this time around, the list gets more exciting! So without any further ado, let me begin!

11. Diving to Similan and Surin Islands

Both these islands are home to some of the world’s best snorkelling spots. Barracuda, lion fish, whale sharks, leather-back turtles, squids, and octopus – you'll see them all here without much effort. And if diving is not what interests you, you can enjoy the beauty of the island from land.

P.S. Even if you aren’t a good swimmer, you can use a life jacket and enter the waters. It’s always great to get into the swim of things at Similan and Surin Islands. Trust me, you won't regret it!

12. Visit The Andaman Coast

From sea kayaking to just simply soaking up in the sun, Krabi and Phuket on the Andaman Coast are two destinations you must visit in Thailand. Watersport lovers will have a ball of a time here. Jet skiing, banana boat rides, parasailing, and marine fishing – you can do it all here! And for people who are not too interested in the ways of the waters, there are scenic trips to indulge into, like the one to Phang-nga Bay, and James Bond Island. Here, you can enjoy boating through lagoons surrounded by lovely limestone cliffs.

13. Riding a Jumbo (Elephant Trekking)

You do not need to be a Siamese soldier to ride an elephant in Thailand. Elephant Safaris are the new high in Thailand. The one in Phuket tops the list of most foreign and Indian tourists. But there is more, you can visit the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in the Northern Province of Lampang and sign up for a course on how to be an elephant mahout. You can learn how to drive it, and may be take it to the river for a bath, or for a night out in the woods.

14. Abseiling in Khao Yai

This is fast catching up as the new adventure in Thailand. And doing it at the Khao Yai National Park doesn’t get any better. Imagine climbing down a cliff with gushing waterfalls on both sides of you. The Khao Yai National Park is a World Heritage Site with a plethora of breathtaking waterfalls.  And to get to some of them, you'll need to indulge in some more adventure – like kayaking through some lakes! Interesting, isn’t it?

15. Find Some Peace of Mind

Want to learn the secrets of serenity from real Buddhist monks. I suggest you either visit Suan Mokkh, Garden of Liberation in Surat Thani, or Wat Mahathat in the city of Bangkok. Spiritual practices undertaken at these places include waking up early at 4:00 am, meditations, listening to Buddhist discourses, yoga, and much more. Think staying silent in one place for 10 long days! To some it may be a scary thought but practices like these do come with their serene surprises.

16. Beauty Spa and Thai Massage

In Thailand and not had a Thai massage yet! How can it be? Thailand is the hub of spa business in all of South East Asia. Thai massages range from facial treatments, full body massages. foot massages, and holistic treatments based on ancient methods of healing. But there is one thing common to all of them. They all come at prices way below you could ever imagine.

17. Thai Food (Tom Yum Kung, Phad Thai, Cooking)

Tom Yum Kung (a spicy broth laced with lemongrass and fresh shrimps) and Phad Thai (Thai style noodles) have now become world renowned. But how about some sweet green curry with chicken; or a spicy papaya salad; or some mouthwatering grouper steamed in lemon and ginger.  Dining apart, you can learn the art of Thai cooking at a local kitchen or at a 5-star restaurant from an authentic Thai chef. Take the recipe home with you and show off your culinary skills to your buddies.

18. Songkran and Loi Krathong Festivals

The celebrations of the Loi Krathong Festival, especially in the atmospheric ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park will remind you of the evening puja at Haridwar. The fragrance of incense filling up the air with the waterways of the whole area illuminated with tiny flower-floats lit up by candles is simply a mesmerising experience. The importance of water for Thais is again showcased during the Thai New Year called Songkran with the ritual bathing of Buddha images and children taking water-wars to the streets at whole new levels of fun and excitement.
