BEACH
I’d often hear of the exotic spa experiences from a lot of friends who had travelled to Thailand. But, I never thought it to be any different from what Delhi offers. I was in for a surprise – a pleasant one!
A spa experience in Thailand is nothing short of an indulgence that’ll keep you wanting more time and again!
Last month, I made a quick escape to Thailand with a few friends. I had my list of ‘things to do’ and a spa experience was towards the end in ‘if time permits’ category. On top of my list were water sports, food, and lots of fun on the beach in Pattaya; and buying an LCD, clothes, and accessories among other things in Bangkok. There was also a lot of sightseeing to do. But, a friend had a spa experience topping her list and it was she who pulled me into a foot spa for starters!
We stayed at Best Western Premiere Signature in Pattaya and just thought of walking down the street to catch the buzz of this ‘sin city’. A fun-loving city made so with the presence of cheerful people, we were just casually enjoying the excitement when we happened to cross a spa parlour, whose workers were gleefully sitting on the road-side pavement. And it was just this light-hearted enticement by them that cajoled us into giving it a try. 100 Baht they said, 60 Baht we quoted and 70 Baht was agreed upon.
We took our seats next to each other on reclining spa chairs while two Thai masseuses sat on stools opposite us. My friend requested the third masseur, a happy-go-lucky young lad to click a picture of us, as a keepsake of this foot spa. And to our surprise he had his time doing a full-fledged photo session for us, told us the poses too while we posed, exchanged glances and wondered when will he stop. Well, he eventually did and the girls started the treatment.
Within minutes, I felt some Thai magic taking over my senses and fell comfortably deep within my cozy chair. Amidst the wafting fragrance of coconut cream, all I could hear was a sound of tinkling water and soothing music in the background. Being veterans of the art, the experienced therapists knew exactly what points to press to relieve me of all the tension areas with extreme grace. I saw my friend dozing off and so, I made a conscious attempt to keep up and take care of our belongings, but all in vein. It was so relaxing I couldn’t help sleeping myself only to be woken up by the therapists when it was over.
I felt so rejuvenated like it was some drug I couldn’t have enough of. In a short stay of two days at Pattaya, I wanted to make the most of it and looked forward for experiencing it yet again. The next day after some exhilarating water sports at the Coral Island, I felt exhausted and decided it was an ideal time to indulge in a body spa. I thought of trying the in-house parlour at Best Western Premiere Signature and loved it every bit. Though a 4-star, the price at which you can enjoy a spa experience here, or anywhere in Thailand is sure to surprise you. I paid just 1180 Baht, which is roughly 1700 INR inclusive of taxes for an experience that was simply fabulous.
The memories of this experience still rule my mind and every time I feel strained of the daily grind, I see myself assessing the possibility of flying straight to Thailand for a spa-ctacular time yet again! What amazes me the most is the fact that a spa experience was not on my top agenda for the trip but is now the fondest memory I carry of Thailand.
