The 2016 Bollywood period drama ‘Mohenjo Daro’, starring Hrithik Roshan, newbie Pooja Hegde and Kabir Bedi in lead roles, was shot at some of the most beautiful locations in India. Director Ashutosh Gowariker shot some of the most iconic scenes of the movie at Dhuandhar Waterfalls and marble rocks of Bhedaghat. If you loved the picture-perfect locations in the movie, then you must add Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, to your travel bucket-list.

Interestingly, the song ‘Raat Ka Nasha Abhi’ from the movie ‘Asoka’, was also shot at Bhedaghat. It is located Just 25 km away from Jabalpur. The abstract stone formations, deep gorges and marble cliffs here would definitely leave you spellbound. Also, don’t forget to ride a boat and glide over the 5 km stretch of river Narmada.

Bajirao Mastani

The 2015 period war drama ‘Bajirao Mastani’, starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, was shot at several indoor and outdoor locations, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. However, major parts of the flick were shot at Amer Fort in Jaipur. A visit to Amer Fort will take you back in time and make you feel like royalty. Listed as one of the top attractions in Jaipur, this UNESCO World Heritage site is built with sandstone and marble. Lose yourself in the classic blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture, catch the sun going down followed by a spectacular sound and light show.

Baahubali Series

‘Baahubali - The Beginning’ and ‘Baahubali - The Conclusion’ need no introduction in the genre of period war dramas. This two-part drama flick was shot at breathtaking locations like the Western Ghats Range of Mahabaleshwar, Hampi in Karnataka, Orvakal Rock Gardens in Andhra Pradesh, and Chitrakot Waterfalls in Chhattisgarh. But, it was the Athirappilly Falls in Thrissur, Kerala, which became most popular amongst the B-town fans. Interestingly, the chartbuster ‘Barso Re’ from ‘Guru’, starring Aishwarya Rai, was also shot here.

Padmaavat

One of the recent box-office top grossers, ‘Padmaavat’ also treated us with some magnificent locations. The film starring Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles got a thumbs up from the audience, and the locations definitely played a major role in it. Places like Chittorgarh Fort (Rajasthan), Jaigarh Fort (Rajasthan) and Masai Pathar (Maharashtra) were captured brilliantly on screen by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, few portions of the movie had to be shot on sets in Mumbai, due to political controversies.

Chittorgarh Fort won the hearts of the audience, and if you also loved the grand fort, you can visit the architectural gem located in Chittor district. One of the largest forts in India, the Padmini Palace here draws the biggest crowd, followed by the 15th century palace of Rana Kumbha. The fort originally had 84 water bodies, and today, only 22 of them remain. Also, do not forget to check out the various temples located in the fort.

Manikarnika

Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Manikarnika’ is another period war drama which was shot at different forts in Rajasthan. The movie took us back in time and displayed the grandeur of Indian royals. Though the movie was mostly shot at Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort, it was the latter that hogged the limelight.

Enveloped with mesmerising views of the Aravalli Hills, and overlooking a beautiful lake, Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur will leave you awestruck with its regal architecture. The Sheesh Mahal and the Wax Museum are added bonuses!
