After a day of white desert and Jackals, today we sped in Gulabo (our car) towards Nirona, a modest village about 20 kilometres from the Kutch Safari Lodge.

We were Road Trippers on a mission to witness the extremely unique Rogan Art that is kept alive by a multiple National Award winning Khatri family. Yes, expectations were high and they were met fair and square.

Prag Mahal: The Italian Job

Prag Mahal was an absolute surprise with Italian gothic architecture. I got an eerie feel on the first floor that had a cracked ceiling and hunted animals on display.

Aina Mahal: Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Aina Mahal was right next door. The entire place was lovingly created from marble and embellished with gold lace and glass back in the 18^th century. Sadly, the mirrors were damaged during the 2002 earthquake and not much restoration has been done ever since.

Bhuj Bazaar

A stroll down the main Darbar Market road led us to an antique store run by Bharat Bhai. He is known to stock the most amazing tribal handicrafts that people from all over the world come looking for. Here we bumped in to Lisa Hall, an Australian who is absolutely smitten by Bhuj.

She has been living here for the last two years working closely with artisans as a mentor and collector. Hope to meet many more passionate Lisas on this journey.
