Crowne Plaza is one of Chennai’s oldest 5 star hotels located in the heart of the city. Over decades, it has had many names and many owners. Its original name was Adyar Park Hotel. Later it was purchased by ITC welcome group, renamed as ITC Sheraton Park Hotels and Towers and few years ago rebranded to its current name, Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park.

Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park has 2 wings—a 6 stories heritage wing and a 8 stories modern tower, together offering 283 rooms including suites. I was fortunate enough to spend a night in this hotel sometime back and here’s a quick review of the 5 star property.

The Delightfully Plush Rooms

Crowne Plaza Chennai offers Superior Rooms, Deluxe Room, Junior Suite and the ultimate Club Suite. Room rents vary from INR 8k to 12k approx. Rooms are well designed for luxury. The superior room has a living area well equipped with sofas, dining table and TV and a resting area with bedroom and bathroom. The set-up is such that one can have their meetings or party in the living area while family members can rest peacefully in the bedroom, thanks to the soundproof separation.

Personalised Pampering

Each room has its own butler—a personalized chef who takes care of any food needs for his guests. Over time, the hotel has profiled its guests and has taken a note of their preferences and priorities. After couple of visits, you don’t have to repeat what you like; the staff there would know it from your previous stay. This kind of personalization and customization has ensured a very high rate of repeat customers- up to 80% are repeat guests- I was told.

Rooms are also equipped with mood lighting, fresh fruits and snacks among other amnesties. A large ceiling to floor window makes for great views of the city.

A feast for your taste buds

Crowne Plaza Chennai has multiple food and beverage outlets to cater to different preferences of their guests. Dakshin is the South Indian restaurant with over 26 years of tradition. The chefs here constantly travel to remote parts of South India trying to bring to life newer items that can be offered to the guests. A must visit outlet to sample authentic Kerala, TN, Karnataka, Andhra and Pondichery cuisines. WestMinster Bar offers a fine collection of alcoholic beverages. On the rocks is an international cuisine restaurant with a difference. A superheated rock is placed at the centre of the table on which food items are kept warm.

Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park is located at the heart of Chennai city, on TTK Road. Most of cities attractions like Kapaleeshwar Temple in Mylapore, Marina Beach, Anna Salai, Besent Nagar beach are within few kms from this hotel. Do make it a point to stay here next time you’re heading to Chennai. For me, a stay here served as a perfect break for all my senses.
