Mumbai, the city of Bollywood and beaches, is frequented by tourists all year round. But if you’ve ever wondered when’s the best time to travel to the city, here’s a handy break-up of Mumbai's major seasons, so you can plan when to go (depending on whether you like the tumultuous rains, or a mild, pleasant winter):

November to February

Since Mumbai is a coastal area, winters are mild here. The temperature rarely goes below 10°C. The days are cool and perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing.  Mumbai is home to a large Christian population, and Christmas is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in the many beautiful churches in the city. February is also when a lot of the cultural events take place, such as the popular Kala Ghoda Arts Festival.

Verdict: Go to Mumbai in winter if you’re a culture vulture, or if you enjoy spending most of your time outdoors.

March to May

Humidity starts rising from March in Mumbai as summer starts approaching. The maximum temperature in May can go as high as 40°C. While it may not be ideal weather to head out in the sun, evenings are pleasant. If you’re visiting Mumbai during this time, it might be a good idea to plan getaways or short road trips to nearby places like Mahabaleshwar

Verdict: Carry cool cottons and sunglasses to avoid the heat. There is a possibility of getting good hotel deals during this time.

June to October

The famous monsoon season in Mumbai sees continuous rainfall, particularly in the months of July and August. It’s a beautiful time to visit Mumbai, especially because you can experience the sea in all its glory. While travelling during these months can seem difficult, life never stops in Mumbai during the monsoons. Public transport still runs in all weather conditions.

Verdict: Go to Mumbai in the monsoon if you’re a lover of the rains, and enjoy a cup of hot chai after struggling through waterlogged streets. Monsoon is also an excellent time to plan weekend getaways to the various hill stations around, like Matheran, Lonavala or Khandala.
