ADVENTURE
When one thinks Bhutan the images that come to mind are that of Buddhist monasteries, friendly locals and peace and calm. But the happiest country in the world is increasingly gaining popularity as a hot destination for adventure sports. Don’t believe us? Here are some of the sports you must try in Bhutan:
Bhutan has six major rivers and they are perfect for rafting and kayaking, whether you’re looking for a gentle flow or a powerful rush of water. There are many levels of kayaking and rafting, ranging from beginner to expert. You can try rafting and kayaking in Paro Chhu, Upper Pho Chhu, Mo Chhu- Tashitang Devil’s Gorge section and Mangde Chhu.
The rugged, hilly terrain of Bhutan is perfect for cycling enthusiasts. Cycling routes range from smooth, paved roads to the more challenging off-roading in the countryside. Apart from giving you an adrenaline rush, cycling is also a great way of exploring Bhutan at your own pace. Plus, you get to interact with the locals.
If you’re looking for something a little more extreme, rock climbing is for you. Exciting rock climbing tours are conducted by the Vertical Bhutan Climbing Club. Climb ‘The Nose’, a climbing rock near Thimphu that offers thirteen exciting climbing routes for all levels.
Trekking is one of the best ways to explore the tiny villages in Bhutan. You can choose either a simple one-day trek, or a rigorous 31-day hike, depending on how avid a trekker you are. Spot gorgeous mountain ranges, sparkling lakes and exotic wildlife as you trek through the scenic hills of Bhutan. Some of the trekking routes you can opt for are the Druk Path Trek, the Jomolhari Laya Gasa Trek, the Jomolhari Loop, the Snowman Trek I & II, the Nabji Korphu Trek, the Dagala Thousand lakes Trek and the Punakha Winter Trek.
