It’s safe to say that the biggest inspiration for most Indians are their favourite Bollywood celebrities.  So, what better way to promote tourism than through the shiniest stars of this industry? These brand ambassadors have added a fresh charm to their states, thus inviting more people to travel and explore these destinations.

Shah Rukh Khan: West Bengal

Not only is he the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, the winning team of the 5th Edition of the IPL, but also the Ambassador of West Bengal. The ‘Sweetest Part of India’ is best known for its rich culture, festivals, placid scenery and now its star representative. With places like Darjeeling, Doars and the Sunderbans, the state doesn’t need much help to promote itself, but having such an acclaimed individual as its ambassador only helps their case. Doars tourism offers a number of choices to visitors like trekking, adventure sports and nature trails. The famous Sunderbans—also a World Heritage Site—is home to the majestic Royal Bengal tigers, and is the largest estuarine mangrove forest in the world. A world in itself, West Bengal has more to offer than one believes.

Preity Zinta: Himachal Pradesh

It comes as no surprise that Preity Zinta, is set to take up the task of representing her home state of Himachal Pradesh. Granted, Himachal is doing comparatively well on the tourism front, but having an eminent personality—who also happens to belong to the place— as the ambassador definitely plays a role in heightening their tourism. Known as ‘The Land of Gods’ and rightly so, Himachal has everything that one looks for in a hill station. From the magnificent waterfalls and the serene landscape of the grand Himalayan ranges to the delectable home-made Himachali food, your visit to this state will not be a disappointment. A few places that one must pay a visit to are Dharamshala, Shimla, Manali and Hampta Pass.

Amitabh Bachchan: Gujarat

To give their state a boost in the tourism department, the government of Gujarat has managed to rope in one of the most influential personas as its Ambassador. Amitabh Bachchan took on the role in 2010 and has been doing a great job since. Gujarat is another state which has more to it than what meets the eye. The Rann of Kutch is the pride of Gujarat. Being the largest salt desert in the world, it is considered a spectacle to be savoured at least once in a lifetime. The barren desert stretches out over 7000 sq. km.! The Rann Utsav, a festival of Kutch with music and dance under the full moon is highly popular among the tourists.

The ever-colourful state of Goa also has a new ambassador. Prachi Desai, who has been very picky when it comes to endorsing brands, has tied up with the Goa tourism to represent the state. She couldn’t be more ecstatic about it and claims that Goa has proved to be lucky for her in the past. Goa is blessed with beautiful water bodies and there are a number of water sports one can enjoy here like parasailing, banana boat and kayaking excursions. The Dudhsagar falls, Fort Aguada and the Museum of Christian Art are some other places of interest in Goa that have been drawing in tourists from far and wide.
