doner kebab

Doner Kebab1. Fish Sandwich
is a delicacy in Istanbul. It can be bought at the Eminonu end of Galata Bridge. The sandwich is made of fish fillets quickly cooked on rocking boats tied to the pier. The fish is put on fresh bread and served with salad as well as a lemon. Another delicacy is Doner Kebab, which is lamb meat roasted on a rotating spit, sliced off and usually, put between two slices of pita bread with vegetables, tomato sauce or yoghurt and is sometimes served with rice. It is very common and can be found almost anywhere in Istanbul.

2. This restaurant may not have the best meat kebaps (Turkish for kebabs) or seafood in Sultanahmet, let alone Istanbul, but Khorasani is one of the few restaurants that have a tandoor where they make fluffy, oven-fresh pita bread. Their mezze platter has a wide selection of dips to choose from. The kebaps aren’t great, but the seafood is delicious.(Address- 39-41 Ticarethene Sokak, Alemdar; mezzes | Cost Rs.170-Rs.225 approximately, kebaps cost Rs.450-Rs.790 approximately)

3. While the only thing good here is Turkish apple tea, Pierre Loti Café is located on a hilltop, that is, it is at a higher altitude than most of Istanbul. It has a great location, where one gets a panoramic view of the city. (Address- Gumussuyu Balmumcu Sik 1 | Eyup)

testi kebab

A Meal At Adonin Cafe4.
Out of all the restaurants in Istanbul I have been to, my favourite is Adonin Café, in Sultanahmet. It has brilliant authentic Turkish cuisine. My favorite dish was the Testi Kebap, which was lamb cooked and served in a pot with vegetables. (Address- Divanyolu Caddesi Ticarethene sokak 27-31, Alemdar, Sultanahmet)
