Think of Andamans and you conjure up luscious images of long walks on sugar-white beaches, snorkelling in turquoise waters and a luxurious stay in a by-the-beach resort. 1. Watch Bioluminescence at Havelock Island

What’s more blissful than spotting entire galaxies right under your feet! If you’re on Havelock Island on a moonless night, chances are that the phytoplankton in the sea waters will light up, illuminating the oceans and beaches.

2. Trek to Madhuban

If you’re an avid trekker, don’t leave Andamans without trekking from Mt. Harriet, the third highest peak there to Madhuban through Kala Patthar. It’s one of the best trekking routes in Andamans, with the trail running through long stretches of forests. Carry a nature journal and your binoculars to capture your thoughts about the exotic flora and fauna that you come across during the trek.

3. Swim in the Kalapathar Lagoon

Situated at the Butler Bay, the Kalapathar lagoon is a well-known swimming area. You can either swim to your heart’s content or loll about in the shady patches of sand, catching up on your reading. And if you want to add some more fun and savour some stunning views of the ocean, then scramble through the cave in the cliff face.

4. Go for a Nature Walk Through the Mongluton Rubber Plantations

If you’re curious about where your eraser or any other rubber goods started their journey, do walk through the rubber plantations in Wandoor to see how raw rubber is grown and sourced. While you’re there, also explore the spice plantations teeming with pepper, betel, clove and cinnamon trees.

5. Climb up the Little Andaman Lighthouse

For magnificent views of the forests and coastline in Andamans, climb up the 200 steps that spiral all the way up to the top of the 41 metre high Little Andaman Lighthouse, situated 14 kilometres east of Hut Bay. Carry your camera to take exquisite photographs or a sketchbook to capture the beautiful landscape on paper.

6. Enjoy Bird Watching at Chidiya Tapu

If you’re an avid bird watcher, a trip to Chidiya Tapu must feature in your travel plan. A tiny island village 25 kilometres from Port Blair, Chidiya Tapu is home to a variety of exotic birds including emerald doves, parakeets and sea eagles.

7. Picnic at Neils Cove

One of the most spectacular places in Andamans is Neils Cove, where you’re surrounded by the best that nature has to offer—pristine beaches, azure oceans and lush forests. Nestled in the cove is an equally gorgeous lagoon with crystalline water. While you cannot swim here at dusk or at dawn, and are advised to pay attention to warnings about crocodiles, you can always enjoy a packed picnic lunch and long leisurely walks around the lagoon.

8. Soak up the Sun at the Various Beaches

With several picturesque beaches like Long Island, Elephant, Beach No. 7 and Corbyn’s Cove to choose from, you’re sure to be spoilt for choice here. So pack in your swim wear and sarongs, and get ready to spend quality time on these white and gold beaches.

9. Explore the Ruins in Ross Island

Ross Island is just 20-minutes by boat from Port Blair, but walking through this place feels like discovering a lost city swathed in a forest. Formerly, the administrative headquarters of the British, the place now has Victorian English ruins all around.

10. Watch Turtles on the Kalipur Beach

Kalipur Beach on Diglipur Island is home to four kinds of turtles that come here annually to lay eggs. If you’re here between October to March, you’re sure to spot the Olive Ridley turtles, Green Turtles, Hawk Bill turtles and Leather Back turtles scuttling about the beach.
