HILL STATIONS
We had spent our childhood together but now the rigours of daily life were making it impossible for us to catch up even in months. So, when the three of us met up one day, there was so much to share that we did not know where to begin from. And soon it was time to leave. It was then that we decided we had to go on a trip to catch-up–an exclusive all-girls trip. And as luck would have it, the very next weekend was a long one and we were all geared up to take a road trip to Shimla.
Excited, we began our journey early in the morning. Chatting non-stop, we admired picturesque vistas and stopped in between for hot tea and snacks. By the time we reached Shimla, despite the awesome feeling, we were a little exhausted. After a quick dinner, we decided to hit the bed because we had planned a long day tomorrow–a trek and a picnic–just like what we used to during our school days.
Next day early morning we drove to Glenn which is a U-shaped valley located amid thick deodar and pine trees, near to Andale and Summer Hills. We drove till the highest point and began our trek down from there. It was a 4-km trek but we took long as we constantly stopped to admire the tall trees, high mountains, and absolutely fresh air. There are many open places en route where you can picnic, but we chose a beautiful stream we saw—it seemed like just the perfect place to laze at.
We spread our mat and took out the coffee, which was still brimming hot in the flask, and the yummy sandwiches and rolls that we had got packed from the Wake and Bake Café. Relishing this yummy breakfast, we began to open up our life stories and walking down the memory lane, while the stream made soft gurgling sounds. After having spoken for hours, we decided to walk up to the Chadwick Falls which is famous for its crystal clear water rumbling down a deep gorge situated at a height of 86 meters. The scenery was just too beautiful—the waterfall, the surrounding hills and the cloudy horizon!. Soon, noon was giving way to evening and we decided to walk back to the car. There have been stories of freak encounters with leopards, especially as it turned dark, and we did not want any of those. We headed back to the hotel, happy at having spent a beautiful day together. The rest of the evening was spent shopping to our heart’s content at Mall Road–woollens, local handicrafts and souvenirs.
The next day after indulging in some sight-seeing, we were on our way back with a vow that we would meet up like this at least once a year. After all, meeting friends amid bountiful nature is one sure-route to happiness.
