FESTIVALS & EVENTS
Macau today is one of the most exciting destinations in the world. With world class facilities, a host of entertainment options ranging from casinos to amusement parks, and some spectacular views by the sea, it is as good as it gets. Here’s yet another reason to visit the place – the Macau Open Golf Tournament, scheduled to be held from October 17 to 20 this year.
With the Stroke of a Club
The Macau Open Golf Tournament happens to be one of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited events of the Asia tour calendar. Since its inception in 1998, it has now become one of the most sought after events in the golfing world. With a prize of a whopping $750,000 up for grabs this year round, the tournament promises to be full of thrills and excitement not just for the players but for the thousands of spectators who come by to watch. Nearly 140 of Asia’s leading golfers as well as professional golfers from around the world participate in the event, which this year will also be marking its 10th anniversary. In past years, the tournament has seen winners from Taiwan, Japan, Australia, US, Scotland, England and China. The winner of the 2012 tournament was India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar.

Go Greens!
Across the world, golfing is considered to be a leisurely sport for the gentlemen and their ilk. Tournaments such as these have now become a great opportunity not only for lovers of golf to come and enjoy a great day on the greens watching their favourite sport, but also for professionals to do some chic entertaining and networking. Adding to the pleasure of a sport well played and viewed is the venue – the spectacular Macau Golf and Country Club at Estrada de Hac Sa Coloane, which houses the most modern and updated facilities, making it one of the best golfing venues of the world. The surrounding landscape and stunning views all around, add to the venue’s charm, making it a great place to not just enjoy a good round of golf (for players) but to also kick back and relax (for spectators). What’s more, unlike entries for other golfing events such as at the historic Merion in Philadelphia, where ticket prices can burn a small hole in your pocket, entry is free for this event!
Making the Most of Macau
The Macau Open presents itself as an ideal opportunity to visit and holiday in Macau, which was a colony of Portugal till 1999, and it is now a Special Administrative Region of China. Over the years, Macau has developed into a wonderful place with unique European and Chinese influences as a part of its rich historic heritage. It is strewn with breathtakingly beautiful churches, temples and imposing buildings. You can spend a couple of days just taking a tour of its many buildings and tourist attractions and will still not have seen all of it. Visitors are also sure to find something to captivate their attention on its waterfronts, theme parks and amusement parks. The shopaholics can head to sprawling malls to buy any number of designer goods and also take a tour of its street markets. One activity visitors should definitely not miss out on is a visit to the casinos. Macau is known as the ‘Vegas of the East’ and its casinos have recently surpassed those of Las Vegas in terms of the money generated!
