The first thing to remember when ordering vegetarian food in Thailand is that the Thais’ definition of “vegetarian” may be very different from yours. Any food without meat qualifies as vegetarian in Thailand, but it still includes dishes with eggs, meat broth, fish oil and the like.  If pure vegetarian food is what you want, VEGAN is what you should be asking for. Only then you can rest assured that your meal is free of any animal products or even dairy. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here are five restaurants where you can find amazing vegetarian food in Thailand.

1. Broccoli Revolution, Bangkok

The name can be misleading because Broccoli Revolution serves meat-free cuisines varying from Mediterranean and Italian to Latin American and of course, South Asian. Mainly a vegan restaurant, all their dishes incorporate the freshest ingredients and flavours. There’s also an organic cold-pressed juice bar at Broccoli Revolution, which donates part of their proceeds to charity.

The menu features over 95 options and the friendly staff at JNA Vegetarian Food is always willing to adjust spice levels and accommodate for any special meal requests their diners may have.

4. Atsumi Raw Café, Phuket

Driven by the philosophy that raw food is healthy food, Atsumi Raw Café focuses on fresh, nutrient-rich food like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts, sea vegetables and sprouted grains. The café has both indoor and outdoor seating, and diners can enjoy free Wi-Fi and complimentary tea. With a wholesome menu featuring breakfast, lights snacks, mains, desserts and smoothies, choosing what to eat at Atsumi Raw Café can be quite a task because of the exhaustive variety of dishes served here.

Located within the premises of the Elysia Boutique Resort, Greenlight Cafe & Bar isn’t a vegetarian-only restaurant, but is extremely vegetarian-friendly in its offerings. It specifically caters to healthy eaters and the menu features vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals, all of which use organic, locally sourced produce, often from their own kitchen garden.
