Coronavirus Precautions Before Heading Out

Sanitise Your Car to Prevent Germs

Wear gloves and use alcohol-based wipes for cleaning the dashboard, steering wheel, seat belt buckle and gear shift, since these are the most-touched surfaces in a car. Wipe from left to right and never wipe back on the same surface twice. Then belt up and clean all the surfaces, including seats, ceiling, windowpanes. It’s also a good idea to get your car fully serviced.

Stock up on Sanitisation Essentials

Sanitization-Essentials

Buy disposable tissues, alcohol based sanitisers and gloves. You never know when you might need to change the tires, for which you’ll need gloves or when the sudden breeze brings in a few sneezes and disposable tissues are called for.

Carry ample drinking water with you and re-fill at hygienic places only (do not forget to wear those gloves!).

Hand sanitisers are necessary. Make it a habit to use alcohol-based sanitisers as frequently as possible, preferably every 20 minutes for best results.

Pack Smartly to Be Prepared

Pack-Smartly

Dust and pollution are quite common when road tripping in India and nowadays there is an added threat of dangerous viruses. Make sure to carry sufficient clothes, scarves and cover-ups.

Do not forget to carry handy detergent sachets and bottles of disinfectants, since it is of utmost importance to stay clean and discourage the breeding of germs. Keep washable sandals and slippers with you wherever you can, because Covid-19 thrives on surfaces and regular cleaning is the only cure.

Do Not Forget the Masks

Road trips bring you in close contact with a number of travellers and locals, and thus call for certain precautions. Pile up on masks because you never know when you’ll run out of them. Moreover, with the skyrocketing demand, it is always safe to have more than one.

Wear a mask and make sure to change it every 10 hours while travelling. Carry along enough masks to help yourself and others in your surroundings.

Also, be equipped with the details of the nearest hospitals, COVID-19 testing centres and emergency numbers. Use Aarogya Setu app to have the knowledge of any infected person near you. Go through their quarantine guidelines if you are travelling to another state.

On-the-move Travel Tips to Beat Coronavirus

wash-hand-properly

  1. Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth with fingers. We know it might itch occasionally, but make sure to use hand sanitiser before scratching.
  2. Sneeze and cough into a tissue or the insides of your elbow, it is good manners and prevents the spread of droplets. Disinfect your clothes as soon as possible and dispose used tissues responsibly. Carry a few disposable bags with you, to contain the waste and prevent the spreading of pollution.
  3. Go digital! Digital payments are the key to minimising physical contact between buyers and sellers. Download a few apps with quick keyboard taps, transfer the necessary amount of money from your bank account and voila, you can now buy souvenirs while maintaining minimal contact with the seller.
  4. Pack enough food from home, and avoid eating out as much as possible, as one can never be certain if the roadside restaurants are taking essential hygienic measures. Also, do not forget to wash your hands (for 20 seconds, at least) before eating.
  5. Use separate bottles and spoons while eating on the way and avoid sharing. Better yet, carry your own bottles and disposable dishes and do away with them safely to prevent environmental pollution.

Safety Tips for Taxis and Buses:

Sanitise your hands before entering and after exiting the vehicle.

Avoid common touchpoints of the vehicle. Practice social distancing.

Paying digitally prevents the spread of germs that can spread by exchanging currency.

In buses, follow the seating guidelines laid down by the government.

If going on an overnight bus journey, carry your own linen or blanket.

Avoid travelling if you are not well.

We know these are difficult times especially for the travel hungry souls. However, if we all work together then we can ensure the safety of our fellow travellers and help flatten the curve.

All the best!
