Delhi winters are celebrated throughout the country, with good reason. There’s something about winter evenings in Delhi that immediately conjures romanticism. The bliss is further complemented with a hot cup of tea to keep your hands warm, and perhaps a serving of jalebis or pakodas. But, if you really want to make for a special winter memory, step outside for a bite. We have curated a list of 6 epic outdoor Delhi restaurants to visit this winter, and trust us, their reputation is more than justified.
Unlike some of its contemporaries in New Delhi, The Potbelly Rooftop Café offers a unique cuisine for its patrons. Serving authentic, lip-smacking Bihari fare, The Potbelly Rooftop Café offers perhaps the best Litti Chokha in the city. The breezy ambience of Shahpur Jat – known as the new hipster hangout ever since Hauz Khas Village went mainstream – provides an excellent respite from the bustle of Delhi. Try Baingan Bharta, Aloo Bharta and Mutton Chokha – all of which are served in generous proportions at economical prices.
Location: Shahpur Jat
Price for Two: Rs. 1200 (approx.)
The name says it all – Amour is the place you take your date to on special occasions. Known as the most popular romantic restaurant in Hauz Khas Village, Amour is distinctive for its sultry outdoor setting overlooking the lake. Visit at night for best results, and mix it up with the French, Italian, Continental, Mediterranean and Seafood delicacies that are served here.
Location: Hauz Khas Village
Price for Two: Rs. 2800 (approx.)
As any Delhi yuppie will tell you, Imperfecto is the coolest hangout in Hauz Khas Village. The décor is suitably unobtrusive and the whole place does look like it could come down in shambles at any point. Add to that a pink scooter hanging from the stairs, and you see why all the cool kids love to get their selfies here. Offering Italian and Spanish delicacies along with a warm ambience, Imperfecto is also famous for its live music nights. Post-dusk, the establishment takes advantage of its setting and adds to your experience with a ton of fairy lights. Suitable for romantic dates as well as chilling with friends, Imperfecto is one of the most popular restaurants in Hauz Khas Village – which is saying something.
Location: Hauz Khas Village
Price for Two: Rs. 2000 (approx.)
Situated in Central Delhi, Lodi – The Garden Restaurant hosts the kind of crowd that occupies the seat of power in the system – diplomats, authors, prolific journalists, think tank honchos and the like. But you’ll also find plenty of couples holding hands here – blame it on the extremely romantic ambience. In the evenings, the lights are dimmed and the leafy environs of the restaurant look resplendent, creating a very intimate atmosphere. Lodi – The Garden Restaurant serves excellent Lebanese, Mughlai, Continental and European dishes.
Location: Lodhi Road
Price for Two: Rs. 2500 (approx.)
Trust the Spaniard to understand the art of romance.
As the name betrays, Sevilla is a Spanish specialty restaurant located at the Claridges hotel which serves quality Spanish culinary delights. While admittedly a bit high on the budget, this is the perfect place to make your date swoon as only outdoor restaurants can do. The dim lighting, cozy seating which boasts space and privacy and yet conjures an air of intimacy, complemented by background Spanish music, can make anyone a bit heady. Add to that the mouthwatering tapas menu and a number of cocktails and what you have is essentially a recipe for the perfect date.
Location: The Claridges Hotel, Aurangzeb Road
Price for Two: Rs. 4000 (approx.)
If you’re looking for a great date on a budget, look no further than Sam’s Café. Aptly located in Paharganj – that haunt of hippies and students – Sam’s Café is an outdoor restaurant that doesn’t take itself too seriously. You’ll find all types here: from travelers exchanging itinerary ideas to groups of friends and couples on a date. The menu is very economically priced, and you can have quite the feasting and drinking here for a large group without having to dig too deep into your pockets. But it’s at night when Sam’s Café truly comes alive. Dimly lit by lanterns, with the hubbub of Paharganj around you, Sam’s Café creates a wonderful refuge, making for a very memorable night out (be it with anyone!)
Location: Paharganj
Price for Two: Rs. 1000 (approx.)
