Even if you haven’t been following the news, you must have heard about the recent protests that happened in Hong Kong. Branded as a student vs government, t-shirt vs suit faceoff, the so-called Umbrella Revolution had the entire world talking. But here's the big question that most of us are probably still asking: Is Hong Kong safe to travel?

Our verdict? Yes, it is.

What’s The Update?

Let’s tell you what’s really going on in Hong Kong right about now.

The talks between the students and government have started, although there’s been little headway. The vast crowds that you saw on TV have dwindled considerably, although quite a few roadways are still blocked to vehicle traffic. This can only be good news for tourists – you don’t have to face the menace of clogged roads while walking around.

Pics Or It Didn’t Happen

Here are a few photographs of people who visited Hong Kong with us on 1st October, 2014. Notice the smiles on their faces?

And some more…

As you can notice, tours in Hong Kong are alive and kicking.

Let’s talk transport now.

Hong Kong International Airport is functioning normally, although air traffic has reduced.

The MTR Subway system is also fully operational. With the road blockades in place, it has become the prime choice of transport in the area.

But where exactly were (or are) the protests happening? Here’s a handy map to help you out.

For your benefit, we’ve also compiled a map which marks all the major sightseeing spots you’d want to visit. Most of them are at a good distance from the protest sites.

Our on-ground experts have already confirmed that transport to all these spots is completely safe and operational.

Here’s some more good news: Thanks to the dwindling tourism, hotels have slashed their tariffs. So if you plan to visit anytime soon, expect to save on your budget.

Bottom Line: Is Hong Kong Safe To Travel?

Our advice? Forget your worries, pack your bags and set off. All you need to do is exercise reasonable precaution, which one could say of travel to any place.

Here's a holiday choice to get you started.

It’s all well in Hong Kong, folks.
