FESTIVALS & EVENTS
“Ye kya jageh hai dosto, ye kaun sa dayar hai
had-e-nigah tak jaha, gubar hi gubar hai...”
Khawatino, Hazraat…If you are a lover of finesse, culture and gastronomic adventures, then look no further than the City of Nawabs – Lucknow! There’s no better time to visit this beautiful sheher than in the months of November and December when the Lucknow Mahoutsav is in full swing.
Kyon ki? Lucknow nahi aaye, toh kya khaak UP aaye!
The Lucknow Mahoutsav was first organised in 1975 as a tourism initiative to promote local art, culture and heritage of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow, being the capital city, hosts this grand and glamorous event almost every year. In 2015, the event will razzle and dazzle the entire nation from 25th November to 5th December.
A beautiful amalgamation of everything Lakhnawai, the Mahoutsav is a kaleidoscope of many interesting events like a tanga race, vintage car display, lip-smacking Awadhi food stalls and a handicrafts display. Did I mention the mesmerising traditional dances, music and shayari?
The mood at this cultural extravaganza is brilliantly set by the remarkable Kathak dance performance by the Lucknow Gharana.
That is just the beginning as the Kavi Samelan and Mushaira featuring Urdu and Hindi Sahitya Academy awardees overwhelm the audience with the richness of Awadhi literature. Look out for timeless experiences like the recitation of poetry by Gulzar, Shabina Adeeb, Naseem Nikhat and other renowned artists of the genre.
Owing to the growing demand of the young and the restless, the Lucknow Mahoutsav committee now also invites famous Bollywood singers like Kailash Kher, Sonu Nigam, Mika, Alka Yagnik and Shaan to enthral the audience. The addition of glamour goes without saying.
If you live to eat, then the Lucknow Mahoutsav is closest to paradise! It is an unwritten convention to eat at Tunday’s and Wahid’s. Just so you know; celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan are fans of Tunday ke kebabs. So, it goes without saying that their quintessential Awadhi cuisine stall enjoys a prime location at the Lucknow Mahoutsav grounds. Not far behind is the famous biryani straight from the handi at Wahid’s.
Any event or festival in India is incomplete without shopping. If you love to buy different, customised and unique things, then Lucknow Mahoutsav is the right place for you. Acclaimed and honoured handicraft artisans from all across the country display their work at this event. It is a treat to the eyes to witness the sheer beauty of their work and listen to the interesting stories they share.
Kuch toh mohabbat mere shehar main rehti hai aise hi ise nazakat ka sheher nahi kaha jata! Come and experience the wonderful hospitality of the Nawabs. Book a comfortable holiday, hotels, flights, trains, buses and cabs only with MakeMyTrip.com.

Very true Vijay...Lucknow is a beautiful city in its own quirky little ways. I have grown up there so I surely have a bias towards this city...
kuch toh mohabbat mer eshehar main rehti hai
aise hi ise nazakat ka saher nahi kaha jata
kuch toj izzat bashindon k dilon main rehti hai
isliye ise tehzeeb ka nagar hai kaha jata
hai chand choone ki khwahish, apne tareeke se
yunhi nawabon ka seher nahi kaha jata
rehat hai yahan “Saahil” yaadon mein “nor” aur “begum akhtar” ki
log yun hi nahi kehte shayar yahan ka har bachha hota hai
