SURPRISE ME!
I find that Coimbatore in itself is a destination for the sightseer given that it’s located in the proximity of verdant hills. There is a profusion of places with cultural, scenic and wildlife appeal in a 250-kilometre radius. As such, there is no dearth of places to stay and imbibe experiences of the locale.
These top of the line, luxurious resorts in Coimbatore and beyond are perhaps better suited to the outsider interested in a getaway from chaotic city environs.
Just a kilometre from the railway station of Coimbatore Junction, this 180-room resort is set amongst lush green lawns and gardens. Pretty big, even by Vivanta standards, it is opulent and luxurious, offering every possible facility, amenity and service to pamper guests to the fullest. A bar and a coffee shop plus two restaurants; one multi cuisine and the other Schezuan in theme, serve a sumptuous and delicious fare. Vivanta hosts events ranging from small, 10-member meetings (board-room style) to massive, 600-member banquets.
Nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats, less than an hour away from Coimbatore and only 25 kilometres from the Siruvani Reservoir, Tamara Resort is located at a place called Perumal Kovil Pathy. Being the nearest ‘nature’ resort to the city endowed with scenic beauty, Tamara is the perfect weekend getaway. With just eight air-conditioned family rooms/suites, I find the ambience is intimate. Four of these are tented and I prefer them for their riverside views. It is a great area for walking around and basking in nature’s glory. One can also enjoy activities like boating, playing snooker or playing in the games room. Tamara Resort has an in-house multi cuisine restaurant and offers room service.
Though this boutique bungalow-style retreat is located just three kilometres from Coimbatore junction and 600-metres from Puliakulam Munthi Vinayakar temple, its traditional construction and sprawling grounds make it an ideal place to unwind. Plenty gaming options are at hand – a tennis court, indoor shuttle courts with wooden flooring, swimming pool, billiards and pool tables, Jacuzzi, steam rooms and bridge facilities among them. Their coffee-shop overlooks the garden and a multi cuisine eatery serves local dishes too. With 14 air-conditioned rooms, a mini banquet hall and business centre, Deja Vu is ideal for small gatherings.
The Windflower Resorts & Spa, Bandipur
A good base for visiting the Bandipur Sanctuary, this resort is about three hours from Coimbatore. With plenty of amenities for guests and comfortable rooms, your stay is sure to be pleasurable. It also has a swimming pool, wading pool and games room, besides a massage centre and yoga classes. The complex operates its own restaurant and bar.
This unique resort is a collection of comfortable log huts. Guests can enjoy taking a dip in the pool, enjoy a great selection of drinks at the bar and savour local fare at the restaurant. This retreat is rated very highly among travellers in the region.
