MMT’s All-New Tap Tap App: Behind the Scenes

Over the years, we’ve worked hard to build a brand that’s unmatched by any other travel agency in India. What started off as a small office in Delhi is now the country’s leading travel agency. And that’s because we’ve always pushed ourselves to bring you the best products and services. This time, we came up with something that would revamp your entire booking experience. 

While you were busy figuring out why Katappa killed Bahubali in Bahubali  or couldn’t take your eyes off Jon Snow in the latest season of Game of Thrones, we were pulling late-nighters at office. We could have watched the IPL Final too, but we were working on something that excited us more than Dhoni’s spectacular sixes.

With focus, commitment, and innumerable cups of coffee at the office coffee machine, we were slowly but surely making progress on a project that had been in the pipeline for a long time. And it took 100 MMT employees, working in perfect harmony (by which we mean making the office our home for a span of 3 months) to finally make it happen!  

The Tap Tap Story

The beginning of the project was similar to a lot of others we’d handled in the past. A handful of people started working on the Tap Tap Android app in the month of May. First week into the project, and colleagues from other departments had already shown interest.

We figured this could be the start of something special. We brought in more people, set challenging timelines and kept our minds focused on the goal. With hardwork, dedication and Flash-like speed from everyone, we were able to wrap it up in July! That’s less than two whole months!

The Tap Tap iOS App started in July and was wrapped up in August. By then we were used to the long weekends in office. Colleagues had become friends, and friends from other walks of life had become distant acquaintances. More than 32,000 person-hours were put into the Tap Tap project, and we don’t regret a moment of it!

Tapathon - that’s what we like to call it – was the most exciting (and exhausting!) phase of our professional lives. If you’ve ever worked on Tech projects involving coordination between multiple departments and several team leads, you’ll know it’s hard enough to meet timelines, let alone also fixing bugs and ensuring efficiency! But with our hard work, we launched the app before time: talk about Super Techies!

What we came up with was something we could all be proud of: an app that offers a lighter and faster experience with numerous improvements in customer experience, battery consumption, latency and new APIs.

What the App Is All About (Android & iOS)

The MakeMyTrip Tap Tap App comes with several new features besides offering a revamped and more intuitive interface for better user experience. With the Taj Mahal and New York City as the backdrops for our domestic and international funnels, the new app sports a contemporary, modern look in tune with our Dil Toh Roaming Hai philosophy. It also allows quick booking for both flights and hotels, and ensures fast and hassle-free payments.

Now you can also call or send a query directly from the app to our Holidays Team. You can also get a Map View for hotels and choose your accommodation based on the neighborhood you’d like to stay in. Previous bugs have also been fixed. (We promise!)
