Get ready for two days of soul-trippin’ and guitar-rippin’ action at the Mahindra Blues Festival that’s also the largest Blues phenomenon in Asia hosted at the Mehboob Studio in Mumbai. Since it started in 2011, Mahindra Blues has featured international Blues legends like Walter Trout, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker Jr., and Buddy Guy among others. It’s also been a platform for burgeoning Indian Blues bands, who perform along with the international Blues artists. This year, the event, now in its seventh year, returns with a great lineup of Blues artists like Blackstratblues, Graine Duffy Band, Shemekia Copeland, Janiva Magness, and Quinn Sullivan.

A razzmatazz rock contest, the Hornbill International Music Festival is part of a bouquet of events that showcase the rich culture and heritage of Nagaland. Organized by the State Tourism and Art & Culture Departments of Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival is held for 10 days, from December 1 till 10 at Kisama, 12 kilometers from Kohima. The Music Festival pulls crowds from all over, and has musicians from India and abroad taking part in the competition. Judged by renowned musicians and actors, the competition features some of the best talent around.

Just three years old and spanning over three long days, this truly magnetic music festival is about more than 40 bands and DJs performing at the three stages. With a plethora of local and regional music artists as well as plenty of international ones performing at the 17th century Alsisar Mahal property, Magnetic Fields draws crowds from Rajasthan, Delhi and all across India and the world. It’s a quirky mix of contemporary music performed at a heritage hotel in the midst of the dunes.

Started in 2012 by Menwhopause guitarist Anup Kutty and Bobby Hano, and hosted by the Apatani tribe, this four-day festival is a melting pot of music and musicians from across India and the world. With bands like the Indus Creed, Sha’air, Louw Majaw, Barmer Boys, and Peter Cat Recording Company participating in the music festival, this event brings forth some of the best talent around. Add to this the fantastic location – a valley that’s 5,500 feet above sea level, and a music-loving population, and you have a whimsical event that you’d love to attend each year.

Smack dab in the middle of the Rajasthan desert, it’s the events as well as the unique destination that makes this cultural fest a super-hit amongst city-dwellers, who travel from far and wide to be part of Ragasthan. Three days of music, films and eclectic activities while camping out on the moonlit Khurdi dunes and travelling on camels makes for the perfect recipe for fun. A funky mix of folk, Jugalbandis, Afro, Trance, Sufi, Techno, Rock, Pop, Alternative, Country music and Raga keeps the music festival fresh and fun, while the films, art, cultural activities, and impromptu performances make for an entertaining experience.
