It is believed that Lord Rama passed through Dandakaranya, or the abode of the demon Dandak, as he, along with Sita and Lakshman, travelled from Ayodhya to Panchvati. The Dandak forest can be loosely mapped from modern-day Chhatisgarh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh till the edge of the Eastern Ghats. Modern-day Nashik is an important pilgrim spot on the Dandakaranya trail today; it has a strong connection with the Ramayana and draws thousands of devotees every year.

Ramkund: Whether you’re here for a spiritual sojourn or a touristy visit, visit the ghat of Ramkund. According to Hindu legend, Ramkund was the place where Lord Rama and Sita used to bathe. One of the reasons why many pilgrims still come here to bathe and pray is that the waters are said to provide moksha!
Dudhsagar Falls: The Dudhasagar Waterfalls, accessible by road, is another beautiful place. Cascading 10 metres, these waterfalls derive their name from the word ‘dudh‘ or milk. It’s a popular picnic spot and is best visited during or right after the monsoon season.
Sula Vineyards: For those keen on adding a unique twist to their vacation, Sula Vineyards is the place to be! Lavish, modern and a big hit with wine lovers, the lush green vineyards offer wine-tasting sessions. Home to grape plantations, it is located approximately 16 kilometres from Nashik. Of course, wine is not the only reason why this place is famous. You can even take your family for a ride on bicycles or enjoy a picnic by the lake.

Hi! these are some interesting facts but I also noticed Dudhasagar Waterfalls mentioned above. Isn't Dudhasagar located in Goa, which is again towards west coast?

Hi Praneel, Thanks for your comment and inputs. True, Dandakaranya stretches across the Eastern Ghats, and while we were researching on the same, we came across varying versions of the vastness of this region. Some scriptures mention it to be in Eastern Ghats, and others included Maharashtra and the Western Ghats as well. Nashik in particular is mentioned several times during their exile in the Dandaka forest. It is very interesting to study these differences from the times of the Ramayana and present day. We would love to hear your thoughts on the other places as well. It will surely be of interest to you! Hope you enjoy reading!

Dandakaranya is in eastern ghats not in western ghats Nashik range is near western ghats. However your approach is highly appreciated. Nashik is the birth place of river godavari.
