HILL STATIONS
No matter how many wanderlust-inducing pictures you see, no matter how many breathtaking videos you watch, nothing will prepare you for the beauty of the North East. ‘Breathtaking’ is how you’d describe it, quite literally. When I stepped out onto the porch of my hotel room in Shillong, it felt as if I had walked right into the clouds. The fog and clouds would clear once in a while, and I’d get a glimpse of a lush green valley and mountain peaks all around. I stood there for what felt like eternity, but I couldn’t have enough of the view. And boy, was I glad to have booked that MakeMyTrip package that got me here!
Driving from Shillong to Cherrapunji was a surreal experience that inspired travel goals of a completely new kind. Those twists and turns, those narrow lanes, stopping by at the edge of the road to let a bus pass, seeing the valley down below each time the clouds cleared—this sense of adventure was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on the planet, is the only place in India that receives rain throughout the year. The place is all about chattering waterfalls, lush green forests, and a calmness that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in India. Driving 50km through this exotic land to the famous Nohkalikai Falls was an experience of a lifetime. We reached this spot and stared in awe at the water gushing down—1115 feet of powerful white waves crashing down on the rocks below. All the water collected in a green pool in front of us, and a dense forest surrounded us on all sides. We took a small hike, and settled down in a small clearing in the jungle to enjoy a picnic. Sitting there amongst nature and listening to the sounds of the jungle was something I couldn’t have had enough of. What’s more, we were even served wine right there, which elevated the experience by quite a few notches. We even took a little walk around the waterfall to click some super gorgeous pictures. On our way back to Shillong, we stopped by at the Presbyterian Church in Nongsawlia, the first church of Meghalaya.
The best part of this fun-filled day was that we got to enjoy diverse experiences, all in a short span of time. Thanks for planning it so well, MakeMyTrip!
