Scuba Diving at Pondicherry: Getting Up Close with Aquatic Life

We are a beach fanatic couple, which means every holiday we have taken in the past three years of being together have been by the seaside. Having explored nearly every popular destination along the Arabian Sea, we were looking for a holiday by the Bay of Bengal and that’s when Pondicherry, a small but vibrant dot on its coastline, caught our fancy. The slew of adventure sports was definitely an added draw, and we settled for a package that offered scuba diving.

A Brush with Aquatic Life

The preparation for our scuba diving experience began on our second day in Pondicherry, when we were taken out for a training session that began with a familiarisation with the scuba equipment. This was followed by a 4-hour training and practice session in a swimming pool. The following morning, we started out early for an actual diving experience in the expansive ocean. I could feel my heart fluttering with excitement as this was going to be my first dive ever. The few hours spent underwater, gazing at the vibrant corals and aquatic life, which included placid turtles and dolphins swimming away in the distance, was a life-changing experience. Not only were we mesmerized by the bounties of the ocean, but communicating with each other in a specific sign language and working in tandem to navigate our way around helped both of us connect on an altogether different level. Although not conventionally romantic, it is an experience I’d recommend to all couples out there.

Other Highlights of the Trip

We used the rest of our time exploring the popular tourist attractions in and around Pondicherry, and were taken in by the infectious colonial vibe of the place. A quiet drinks and dinner date at the Rock Beach after our scuba diving training session was definitely one of the other high points of our trip. After emerging from the sea, we headed to the Serenity Beach and indulged in the heartiest seafood spread at the Marine Drive Teatauo cafe.

It was an excellent trip with sea water sports, DudhSagar waterfall visit was one of the best memorable trips of my life. The natural beauty and white (milk) waterfall were the best. It was an awesome experience. Thank u sea water sports.
