A Perfect Evening in Udaipur: Of Palaces, High Teas and Sunsets

Being treated like royalty is one of the bigger joys of visiting Rajasthan. My husband and I were planning a trip to Udaipur for a brush with this regal experience, and somehow, just walking the alleys and hallways once frequented by the kings and queen wasn’t enough. We needed something extra to add a touch of oomph to our travel experience, and a high tea on an immaculate terrace of a palace overlooking the Lake Pichola—the heart of Udaipur—made the perfect fit.

One has to experience the splendid high tea outing on the Sunset Terrace at Fateh Prakash Palace to believe how a humble cup of tea can create cherished memories. This was our first couple-only trip after our little bundle of joy came along, and needless to say, rekindling the spark was on top of the agenda. The beautiful setting of this high tea, against the backdrop of the Royal City Palace, overlooking Lake Pichola with the lush Aravali mountains in the distance, made for the perfect venue for a romantic evening. The cool breeze, mesmerizing sunset, piping hot tea and delectable snacks gave us company as we got lost in the moment and share unadulterated bliss with each other.

The Gorgeous Sights of Udaipur

We spent the rest of our time exploring the nooks and crannies of Udaipur. From walking the old bazaars to visiting popular tourist spots like the vintage car museum, the City Palace, Bagore ki Haveli and Fatehsagar Lake, we did it all. A tour of the Museum of Folk Arts, and a visit to the Monsoon Palace to witness yet another glorious sunset from a hilltop, were definitely the other unforgettable highlights from this short-yet-sweet getaway.
