Bibi-qa-Maqbara is fondly known as the poor man’s Taj Mahal. Built by Aurangzeb’s son Azam Khan as a mausoleum for his mother Rabia-ud-Daurani, this is a prominent monument in Aurangabad that is also referred to as the Taj of the Deccan. It has four minarets flanking a central onion-domed mausoleum, and formal gardens that are a delight to explore.

Taj Mahal of China

China and re-makes go hand in hand. So it comes as no surprise that China has built its very own version of Taj Mahal. This one is located at a theme park in Shenzhen, and is called the Window to the World. The park has replicas of other famous monuments too, including the likes of Eiffel Tower and Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Taj Mahal of Dubai – Taj Arabia

Trust Dubai to make the Taj Mahal grander than ever before. Taj Arabia is set to open in 2018, and is going to be 4 times larger than the original Taj Mahal in Agra! Taj Arabia will be a 20-storey hotel accommodating 350 rooms, restaurants and even shops. This structure would be a part of the famous Mughal Gardens area of Dubai, a 210000 sq feet space that boasts of lush green landscapes, and other architecturally themed residential and commercial buildings.

Royal Pavilion, Brighton, UK

Yes, even the United Kingdom has its own version of the Taj Mahal! The Royal Pavilion, also known as the Brighton Pavilion, is a British monument famous for resembling the iconic Taj Mahal. In fact, one third of the Brits thought that the Brighton Pavilion was the original monument! Built as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, the architecture of this structure is inspired from the 19^th century Indo-Saracenic style that was prevalent in India, leading to the close resemblance.

Taj Mahal of Bangladesh

Located in the capital city of Dhaka, the Taj Mahal of Bangladesh was built by a Bangladeshi filmmaker Ahsanullah Moni. His travels to the real Taj Mahal in Agra served as inspiration, and he built this replica in his own country as part of a movie set, hoping it would stay on and draw more tourists to Dhaka. It was built as recently as 2008.

Taj Mahal Houseboat, Sausalito, California

Vineyard entrepreneur Bill Harlan was so inspired by his visit to the Taj Mahal in the mid-1970s that he decided to build a replica of it! Upon his return to California he started construction of the Taj Mahal Houseboat, which, as the name suggests, is a version of Taj Mahal on a boat. The design inspiration also comes from one of his visits to the Dal Lake in Kashmir. Bill lived in this Taj Mahal Houseboat till he sold it off in 2016 before moving on to Napa.

Humayun’s Tomb

Did you know? The Humayun’s Tomb is older than the Taj Mahal! In fact, it is believed that the design and layout of Taj Mahal is heavily inspired from that of Humayun's Tomb. Humayun’s Tomb was built by Akbar, and is located in the capital city of India, New Delhi. Even though it is built in red sandstone, it is structurally very similar to the Taj Mahal of Agra.
