This gem of a place has acquired a special spot in the hearts of travellers for its natural beauty and warm hospitality, apart from its world famous art and literature event – The Hay Festival. Every year, thousands of people throng here to soak in this artsy fervour fuelled by an array of book stores, delectable food, exotic drinks and much more. 

What is Hay Festival all about?

With its origin as old as 1988, the Hay Festival is a riot of 800 events entailing poetry, drama, nature, science, fiction, non-fiction, music, art and environment. It is usually a 10-day affair spanning May to June. Eventually, Hay Festival turned out to be such a sought-after event that it has spilled over to some other major countries as well, that includes Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Spain.

Things to Do at Hay Festival 2019

While you’re there, make sure you do more than being engrossed at the book stalls. While Hay Festival is primarily about books – there’s so much more to it than that.

Grab a cuppa, or drink up a unique concoction of whiskey at one of the chic bars. There are plenty of exhibitors and jewellery shops to keep you busy. Oh, you may also take part in some key events doing rounds, such as debates, musical shows, workshops, book signings, children’s events, musical concerts, etc. Who knows? If you are lucky enough, you might bump into your favourite musician, or get your book signed by its renowned author.

The nearest railway station is Hereford, which is about 40 minutes away from the event site.

There is also a festival bus service linking the festival site with trains and coaches at Hereford.
