Not everyone likes the rain! It can play spoilsport and the best laid plans often need to be abandoned especially if you’re on holiday. Don’t fret about getting wet…here are must-visit holiday destinations if rain isn’t your idea of fun.
Hailed as one of the most romantic cities in India, Udaipur is known as the ‘City of Lakes’ and the ‘Venice of the East’. Once the summer capital of Mewar, the city boasts some of the most stunning palaces, monuments and temples. A great holiday destination for those who don’t want to be soaked by the rain, during your stay here take an excursion to the imposing Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh Forts, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You can even visit the Sajjan Garh or Monsoon Palace nestled in the Aravalli Hills and overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. Get a bird’s-eye view of Udaipur, take a cable car ride between Deen Dayal Park atop the hill near Lake Pichola and Machhala Hill Top near Karni Mata Temple. For an absolutely magical experience in Udaipur, take a boat ride on the majestic Lake Pichola, which is especially spectacular during sunset when the water glistens in hues of gold.

Not enough can be said about the raw and untouched beauty of Ladakh. The mesmerising landscape of this Himalayan wonderland is where you can find barren mountains, crystalline lakes and verdant valleys. At a height of over 11,400 feet, the capital city of Ladakh, Leh, is a treasure trove of experiences and a great starting point for excursions in the region. Start with visiting to Tso Mori Lake and Pangong Lake for their natural splendor and calm. While Tso Mori Lake is the largest high-altitude lake in the trans-Himalayan region, Pangong Lake extends from India to China. An excursion to Sham Valley is where you can visit Ladakh’s famous monasteries like Alchi, Lamayuru, Spituk, and Likir. If you’re the biking kind, ride a two-wheeler in Ladakh to get a true sense of the sheer vastness of the region. On your holiday, don’t miss Nubra Valley, which serves as the gateway to Khardung La pass and where lie major landmarks like Diskit monastery, Shyok River and Siachen Glacier, north of Nubra Valley.

An idyllic hill station in Karnataka, Madikeri nestled in the Western Ghats is lush and luring. A must-visit holiday destination rain or shine, of the main attractions here is Abbey Falls. Located in between coffee plantations, the falls gush from a height of 70 feet. For a good view of Abbey Falls, the hanging bridge built across the gorge is a great vantage point. A visit to Madikeri is incomplete without watching a sunset from Sunset Point or Raja’s Seat that offers a commanding view of the cliffs and valleys around Madikeri.
A much sought-after holiday destination given its proximity to India, Sri Lanka is all encompassing. The backwaters and beaches of Bentota are especially attractive and perfect for a relaxing coastal getaway. There’s also a lot of fun to be had here if you’re into water sports and activities. Unlike Bentota, which is popular amongst tourists, you can also go off the beaten path to Cinnamon Island in the country’s deep south. Named for the cinnamon cultivated in this area, Cinnamon Island abounds in nature’s goodness complete with coconut trees and spice plantations.
