Tourism is at its peak during April. This month witnesses the Sinhalese New Year celebration featuring flower shows, car races, and horse races, attracting lots of tourists.

Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo is the closest airport to Nuwara Eliya around 155 km away. The easiest way of reaching the city is by booking a flight to Colombo and then travelling to Nuwara Eliya either by train, a bus, taxi or rental car. Nuwara Eliya and Colombo are linked by two road routes; one via Hatton and one via Kandy. The closest railway station to the city is 10 km away in Nanu Oya. Taxis for Nuwara Eliya are easily available from the railway station.
