My sister and I had been planning a trip together for over a year, but clashing office schedules kept causing delays until February this year. With a long weekend coming up, we finally had time for a small getaway. We instantly put on our trip planners’ hat and got down to business! Destinations were shortlisted and enquiries were made — all in a rush, until we finally zeroed in on Udaipur!

Udaipur

We booked our stay at Udai Kothi, a beautiful heritage-style property located near Hanuman Ghat in the older part of the city. Guess the best part? The hotel’s excellent location!  All necessities and tourist attractions were very easily accessible.

The first place we visited was the Monsoon Palace. While the palace as such didn’t boast of anything extravagant, the panoramic views of the city that we caught from there were to die for!

A trip to Udaipur could not be complete without visiting the City Palace! Bustling with tourists, the palace showcased dazzling artwork and architecture, allowing a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Maharajas of Mewar.

As we were pretty tired after the City Palace tour, we decided to break for lunch and then spend a few laid-back hours by the tranquil Lake Pichola.

The Vintage and Classic Car Collection was another place high on our list of ‘places to see in Udaipur’! The Maharaja’s car collection flaunts an exotic medley of cars, ranging from Mercedes to MG Motors. The highlights of the collection are a Cadillac convertible that ferried Queen Elizabeth II in 1963 and a Royal-Royce that featured in the Bond movie Octopussy.

This almost unplanned trip was more fun than I expected it to be! We came back rejuvenated, with a bagful of memories.
