ROAD TRIPS
After a monotonous week at work, where your boss treats you like their personal minion, and your landlord stands on your doorstep bickering, you really need a getaway from the hassles of daily life. There are plenty of awesome weekend getaways from Kolkata, and most can be approached by road. So, don’t think too much, pack your bag, fuel your vehicle, and pick a destination to drive to. As they say, sometimes the journey is more beautiful than the destination, so a road trip will make for an awesome weekend getaway
These 5 road-trips from Kolkata will literally transport you to a wonderful weekend on the road:
One of the most popular weekend getaway destinations from Kolkata, the road-trip to Digha is one you definitely need to take as a genuine Kolkatan! Drive to Digha via the Kolaghat-Nandkumar-Digha Road, and look for the sea as it plays pika-boo on your drive. Once in Digha, take a dip during the low tide, where you can enjoy the mellow waters, safe for swimming.
Visit the abode and the knowledge house of one of India's most renowned scholars, Rabrindranath Tagore. India's first university is worth a visit, and you can drive down from Kolkata on the scenic road trip, and reach this treasure chest of history in just a few hours.
A fairly long-ish drive, but totally worth it, is the road trip from Kolkata to Kurseong. The changing nature of the scenery, the start to the hilly terrain and the winding roads, view of the tea plantations and the lovely white orchids, make this drive truly memorable. Drive for around 10-12 hours, stop along the way for some epic pictures and reach the tranquil hill-station for a quiet retreat.
Can you really pass the opportunity to unwind in a beautiful setting, which is just a few hours drive? Guess not. Drive from Kolkata to Roychak for the calm setting away from the metropolitan rush, and be amazed at the overwhelming beauty of the Ganges, as it flows in all its glory towards the sea. With plenty of food stops, and very little planning needed, take this quick road-trip with friends for a fun weekend getaway
This stretch to Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India, from Kolkata, is nothing less than a visual treat. Once in Varanasi, you can adorn all your spiritual colours by visiting the ghats.
What are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get, set, go!
