Ladies, pay attention!

The summer months are upon us and the stifling heat means fierce requests to the driver bhaiyya to keep the AC on at all times during the cab rides to and from work. But this too shall pass. Once the fierce temper of June and July is over, August arrives to lick our wounds – bringing the sweet joy of rainfall, wet soil and just the right dash of romance with it.

So, you need to prepare, plan, set aside budgets.

We have six destinations for you to visit, all chosen on the basis of their Epic Factor during the monsoon months and – of course – safety for solo travel. With that, we bring you the 6 destinations worth visiting for female travellers. Get your raincoats on for this.

Lonavala (Maharashtra)

The usual suspect when it comes to monsoon holidaying, Lonavala is an absolute treat to visit in August and September. The salubrious climate and the plush Sahyadari range dotted with splendid waterfalls and ghats brings all the natural experiences that look sublime in the rain.

For Mumbaikars, Lonavala is certainly a no-brainer but even Delhiites or Gujaratis can make a nice weekend escape out of it. Do ensure that you visit the cliffs of Tiger Point and explore the Karla caves before stopping to chill by the waterfall near Bushi Dam.

Kodaikanal (Tamil Nadu)

kodaikanal

One of the princesses of ‘hill stations’, Kodaikanal has a reputation for being one of the most attractive monsoon destinations in India – with good reason. The Palani Hills, languid lakes and scintillating waterfalls make this an enviable destination to visit in August.

Lakes are your firm companions for this one. Do make sure you check out the Kodai Lake – a man-made spectacle encircled by rocks and trees. The Berijam Lake offers splendid views of nearby hills and ghats. Boating opportunities are available, unless it’s raining cats and dogs in which case, just hop under some shelter and watch that lake sparkle.

Coorg (Karnataka)

Coorg

One of India’s most visited biodiversity spots, there are no points for guessing why Coorg would make an excellent monsoon adventure. Dense forest cover, exquisite flora and fauna, thunderous waterfalls, aromatic coffee plantations…Coorg has plenty in its arsenal to wow you again and again…and again.

The Pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary deserves a visit – followed by a rewarding hike up the Kotebetta peak. If you can, also explore the Jog Falls, which are the second-highest waterfalls in India.

Munnar (Kerala)

Munnar

Sometimes words aren’t enough to describe a place. Munnar fits in that category.

A heaven in God’s Own Country, Munnar is a favourite honeymooner’s destination because it misty climes, sprawling tea plantations and evocative, ever-changing landscapes provide such wondrous recipes for romance.

Monsoons make Munnar come, if possible, even more alive. Do ensure you take nature walks at the lake of Devikulum and a visit to the wildlife reserve of Anamudi will not leave you disappointed.

Udaipur (Rajasthan)

udaipur

The land of the Rajput princely pride adds some colour and greenery to its rich heritage, come the monsoon months. Known for its lakes and palaces, Udaipur is besotted with pastures to make its medieval relics look even more majestic by comparison.

Ensure a trip to the City Palace and take a walk around the Lake Pichola to make the most of your trip. Do try the biryani at some of the more reputed eateries here – you don’t want to fall sick eating street food in the rainy months!

Pondicherry

pondicherry

The colonial, Francophile aura of Pondicherry is given a shimmering glow with the onset of the monsoons. Mustard tinted villas, imposing colonial bungalows, and the fluid cobbled alleys rejoice as August begins its downpour. The cool ambience – no doubt aided with the number of plush gardens and well-planned cityscape – only adds to your holiday experience.

Make sure you make a beeline for Pondicherry’s beaches and give Auroville – that wonderful community experience – a visit as well, if only to try their delicious French cuisine.

Well, there you have it. That’s our list for you this August. Want some more tips? Feel like we missed something out? Speak up, speak out on the comments section below.
