ADVENTURE
Sikkim’s beauty is captivating! And if you decide upon a Yak Safari, you will be spell-bound at the untouched and bewitchingly stunning landscapes covered during the trip. Here are the best places to explore on a Yak Safari in Sikkim.
Tsomgo Lake is situated at an altitude of 12,400 feet above sea-level and about 40 kilometres from the capital city of Gangtok. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by snow-covered mountain peaks. One distinctive feature about this lake is that it changes colours throughout the year.

Take a vehicle to reach the spot. You will find the venue lined up with beautifully decorated yaks. They usually have brightly-coloured knits for their horns and a large bell around their necks.
It will depend on the route you choose! You can either go around the lake or up the mountains. Or ride till the View Point, where the beauty of the deep valleys is simply breath-taking. We strongly recommend heading for Kemthang, where you’ll feel like a royal riding atop the Yak along the snow-covered trails. If you are not in the mood for adventure, just take a ride around the market. Whatever it is that you choose, a Yak Safari at Tsogomo will be an experience of a lifetime.
The duration of the safari depends on the destinations you choose, and can range from anything between twenty minutes to an hour or more.

Thick forests of pine, oak, maple and chestnut trees give way to a serene, clam and astonishingly mesmerising Dzongri Lake, situated at 13,800 feet above sea level. Surrounded by spectacular mountains, the incredible panoramic views of Kabru, Pandim, Koktang, Narsing and Ratong from Dzongri top are just mind-blowing. But what takes the cake is the view of the milky white Kanchenjunga.
A two-day Yak Safari can be arranged while trekking from Yuksom, situated at 5800 feet above sea level to Dzongri. This is a tedious route but you can’t help marvel at the wonders of nature all the while. From Dzongri, you can take different routes but one of the most popular ones is to move along the banks of the river towards the east and cross the bridge over the Prek Chu river, from where it is an hour’s climb to Tangsing, located along the slopes of Pandim mountains.
The Yak Safaris are organised by either Sikkim Tourism or by a number of specialised operators. For the Yuksom-Dzongri and upward route, it is best to have your safari booked in advance.
It depends on the route you choose. It can be anything from two days to more.
