Community-Based Tourism and Alternate Livelihood

Partner: World Wide Fund, India

Through our partnership with World Wide Fund, India (WWF), we supported the local communities of Ladakh for the development and promotion of community-based sustainable tourism. We helped the communities set up 5 homestays and 6 Eco-Café’s in Ladakh, while also setting up channels for waste collection to reduce tourism footprint. This initiative aims to preserve the Himalayan ecosystem as an eco-friendly tourist destination while providing benefits to the local communities and wildlife.

TESTIMONIALS

- Himanshu Pandey

As a conservation organization, WWF-India works for the protection of the wildlife, their habitat and the promotion of sustainable living. This project covers both of our visions - conservation of the Himalayan ecosystem as well as sustainable tourism and livelihood options. Together we will not only work for the conservation of the ecosystem but also promote the locale, history and culture of the Himalayan region.
