Neil Island - Integrated Development Plan
Partner: Multiple Stakeholders
Our work in the Andamans aims to promote sustainable tourism and environmental conservation. The multi-faceted project includes various components such as a solar-powered public convenience unit at Bharatpur Beach in Neil Island. The container is equipped with toilets, showers, changing rooms, lockers, and a feeding area. The facility integrates efficient waste disposal and treatment systems to minimise environmental impact. We are also operating a Water ATM on the island, providing safe drinking water at a reasonable cost and encouraging reusable bottles to reduce single-use plastic.
In addition to these infrastructural plug-ins, we are also running a waste management program at the island with regular beach clean-ups, underwater dives and deep sea clean-ups, freeing the corals from ropes and fishing nets. We are also conducting awareness and sensitization sessions with various stakeholders such as hoteliers, fishermen, boat association, school students, etc.
