Grow-Trees.com initiated a large-scale native species plantation program to secure and improve the Himalayan ecosystem among two mountainous Indian states, Sikkim and Uttarakhand. MakeMyTrip partnered with Grow-Trees.com for the same. The project uses a participatory, multi-stakeholder approach to enlarge outreach and outcome at the local level. Grow Trees has partnered with Youth Development Society of Sikkim (YODESS) in Sikkim and Central Himalayan Rural Action Group (CHIRAG) in Uttarakhand to implement the project. These plantation activities will lead to increased ground water levels and easy availability of fodder. They will also reduce the forest fires that are currently prevalent in Uttarakhand due to the pine forests.In Sikkim too, the native species will ensure a better ecological balance and environment. All the activities involve the local communities to a great level, building a sense of ownership and thus, a sustainable model. In addition to these, MakeMyTrip Foundation is also supporting plantation projects with Grow-Trees.com in Kheda, Gujarat and cyclone affceted areas of Odisha.
