Ahmedabad Airport History:

Ahemdabad Airport known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is one of the busiest airports in India. It is located about 8 km away from the city and is named after statesman and former Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The airport is stretched in an area of 1,124 acres and recently inaugurated the fourth terminal. During the year 2007-08, the airport handled, including both domestic and international, 2.4 million passengers and is expected to handle nine million in the year 2012. The new terminal has been designed on the nodal of Singapore Changi Airport.

Ahmedabad Airport Terminals:

Terminal 1: It is a domestic terminal which has two floors with all the modern amenities. The terminal is well designed and can handle 1400 passengers at peak hours. There is a good parking space and it can park 250 cars at once. One will also find Wi-Fi facilities as well as eating joints. It operates number of domestic flights which connect the city from major as well as various minor parts of the country.

Terminal 2: It serves as an International terminal from where many international flights take-off and land. The airport terminal was inaugurated on 4 July 2010 but was operational on 15 September 2010. The design of the terminal was inspired by Singapore Changi Airport. One can find both the arrival and departure sections. There are four aerobridges and 32 check-in counters in the terminal for various airlines.

Terminal 3: It is mainly used for secondary traffic. The terminal three with 200 car parking facility is mainly used during Hajj season. The terminal can handle approximately 500 passengers during peak time.


Terminal 4:
This terminal is used for cargo purpose. More than 56 percent of international cargo is handled at this terminal.

Baggage Services:  The airport has a good baggage service as you can get luggage trolleys all around the airport to carry your luggage. For disabled passengers, the facility of wheel chair with escorts is available. The airport also has lost and found section.

Places to Shop and Eat: To provide world class facilities, there are quite a good number of eating joints as well as shopping stores. You can find TR Book Stall, Handloom Handicraft stalls, Snack Bar, Tea Coffee bar and Juice Counter. The cost of these stuffs is on the affordable side. One can find these stalls at terminals 1 and 2. For public convenience, mobile phone recharging points are there.

Duty Free Shopping: There are some duty free shops at terminal 2 from where you can buy some valuable things at best prices.

Forex Services: Additionally, passengers can avail themselves of currency exchange services at Ahmedabad Airport, where foreign currencies can be exchanged easily for Indian Rupees, making international travel more convenient.

Connectivity with the City:

Bus: The distance between the airport and bus stand is approximately 8 km. One can find good number of taxis as well as private buses which will take you to the airport from the bus stand. You will also find pre-paid booth to hire taxis from the airport.

Rail: The airport is also around 8 km away from the railway station. It will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to reach the airport from railway station. From the station, you can easily hire private cabs to reach the airport.
