Bangalore Airport History
Bangalore International Airport, also known as HAL Bangalore Airport is located approximately 4 km away from the heart of the city. It was established by Walchand Hirachand in the year 1940. In its initial days, the airport was used for the Royal Indian Air Force. In the year 2005, the AAI (Airport Authority of India) had started constructing the new Bengaluru International Airport which is about 35 km away from the city. After the establishment of the new airport, HAL airport now serves as a test and research facility. The Bengaluru airport is a hub for Blue Dart Aviation, Deccan Aviation and Kingfisher Airlines.
Bangalore Airport Terminals
Terminal 1: It is a Passenger terminal where one can board and de-board domestic as well as international flights. The terminal has a four level building with all the modern amenities. On the first level, one can find baggage and check-in facilities whereas on the second level, you will find domestic and international departure with many retail outlets. The unique thing about the airport is that it can handle approximately 720 aircraft movements in a day as well as 11 million people per annum.
Terminal 2: It is mainly known as Hajj terminal which is constructed for Hajj pilgrims. The terminal is spread in an area of 1,500 square meters. The terminal also has some prayer rooms for both men and women. Here, you will also find some interesting facilities.

Bus Stand: The total distance between the Bengaluru international airport and Bangalore bus stand is about 40 km and it takes approximately 40 minutes to reach the airport from bus stand by taxis. There is a good service of taxis and you will also find a pre-paid taxi booth at the airport.
Railway station: Bengaluru international airport is approximately 30 km away from the Bangalore railway station. One can easily get private cabs from the railway station to reach the airport and it hardly takes 30 minutes to reach the airport from the railway station.
