Sholapur Airport History:
Sholapur airport is situated in the Sholapur city in the state of Maharashtra. The airport was constructed by the defense authorities of India in the month of September in 1948. It was built during a police action operation being carried out during that time on the ex-Hyderabad. It was not maintained after that time and it was in the year 1987 that the airport was reconstructed and developed by the Public Works Department of the state. Operations of an ATR service of the Kingfisher Red were carried out from the airport to Mumbai, at a frequency of four times in a week, from February 2009 to August 2010, which were later discontinued. The airport cannot be expended due to the dearth of space. According to a decision by the state government, a new Greenfield code ‘D’airport shall be maintained at a distance of 15 kilometers from the present airport in the city. Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation has obtained an area of around 650 Hectare to develop the commercial area around the prospective airport. The Mott MacDonald Group is engaged in generating world detailed engineering designs and airside as well as landside designs for up gradation of the Sholapur airport.
