About Surat Airport
Surat Airport History:
The Surat airport was developed by the Gujarat State Government in Surat. The regional airline Vayudoot and the Gujarat airways used to operate originally through this airport. These airlines later discontinued their operations. The airport was then transferred under the ownership of Airport Authority of India in the year 2003. The commercial airlines services again became operational through this airport in the year 2007. An Indian airline flight departing for Delhi was flagged off in the month of May the same year by the then Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Praful Patel. Till that time the airport was under major modernization and developmental activities taken up by Airport Authority of India. It was revamped by the authority for getting operational in the year 2007. Prior to that, the airport had witnessed a failure in this direction in the year 2004. In June 2004, the authority had failed to connect the city of Surat with Mumbai and Bhavnagar due to poor infrastructural facilities. After that Air Deccan used to operate through daily flights till June 2005. Surat airport is under continuous operations since 2007 through domestic flights to and from Surat to major Indian cities.
Surat Airport Terminals:
Terminal1: Domestic Terminal - The domestic terminal of Surat Airport can accommodate total of 240 passengers at a time with 120 each at arrival and departure section. The new terminal building has been highly developed with modern facilities. The terminal has an adjoining 2250 meters long runway, with an airfield having night landing facilities. The terminal has CCTV camera surveillance, baggage carousel and X-ray machine for hand baggage. The terminal is expected to have an air bridges, escalators and elevators, and more number of seating lounges for the passengers in near future.

Apart from that, Kosad, Uttran, otahngam, Udhan Junction, Sachin, Bhestan, and Niol railway stations are the other railway stations connecting the city with other parts of India.
Bus: Paras Police bus stand, BRC bus stand, and Surat Railway Bus stand. Paras Police Bus Stand is at a distance of 15 kilometers from the Surat Airport via Surat Dumas Road, which is a nearly 25 minute’s drive. BRC bus stand is approximately 16 kilometers away from the Surat airport through National Highway 6 and the Middle Ring Road.

Surat Airport Authority comes under the administrative control of Airport Authority of India since 2003, when it was given to AAI by Gujarat State Government for modernization. Airport Authority of India has the sole authority to carry out the operations of the airport.
