Located in Chittoor District in Tirumala city of Andhra Pradesh, Renigunta Airport is located 14 km east of Tirumala city. It is spread over an area of 312 acres. Foundation stone for Tirupati International airport was laid by the Prime Minister in 2010 but was cancelled as the airport was small but in Jan 2012, the government of India announced that it will upgrade Tirupati airport to international status. Four hundred acres of land have been allocated for the purpose and it has been further announced that the airport would be equipped with night landing facilities as well. The whole project would take a year to complete and would be ready by 2013.
