Since Diu has seen a lot of political upheaval, there is a wide range of attractions like forts, fortresses, temples, beaches and churches. All these places form an integral part of any Diu tourism package. Some of the major attractions are-

Diu Fort- This fort is quite huge and imposing structure overlooking the Arabian Sea. Built between 1535 AD and 1541 AD, this fort stands as evidence to the treaty signed between the Portuguese and the Gujarat Sultan. The sea surrounds this fort from three sides and on the fourth side, there is a canal. Visitors love to enjoy the magnificent view of the sea.

Panikota Fortress- This is a stunning structure built close to the sea close to the mouth of the creek. To reach this fortress, tourists have to use a motor launch or a canoe. There is a small chapel and a lighthouse on the fortress. Beautiful views can be enjoyed from the highest point of the fortress or the jetty.

Gangeshwar Temple- This is a beautiful temple located almost 3 km away from the town. This is Lord Shiva’s temple where close to the sea shore, five lingas have been established. The waves of the sea wash the lingas during high tide.

Diu Museum- This building houses myriad stone inscriptions and antique statues and is an important part of Diu Tourism. This museum was earlier old St Thomas Church. Today, this building houses statues, wooden carvings, shadow clocks, idols and many other artifacts collected from various sites.

How to reach

Tourists can reach Diu by air with the airport nearest to the city is the Mumbai Airport, located in Mumbai. This airport is located 193 kn away from Diu. Taxis are available from here to reach this place from the airport. To reach Diu, Vapi railway station in Daman. Several public and private transport buses are available that ply their services to this destination besides many private tourist buses.

Best Season to Visit

You can plan your visit any time of the year, but October to May is the perfect time to visit this destination and enjoy tourism in Diu.
