Gurgaon Tourism

Gurgaon is the sixth largest state of Haryana. The city has gradually evolved as the I.T hub of India and today, it stands as the witness to the Industrial growth that India has been able to achieve after Independence. Gurgaon is situated to the west of Delhi, at a distance of about 20 km from the city centre and is considered to be the most important and well developed satellite town of Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). Apart from being one of the key commercial centers, the city also boasts of a rich historical background. The city was formerly known as Gurugram which literally means the village of the Guru. As far as the legend goes, the city was bestowed to Guru Dronacharya by the Pandavas. The name Gurgaon is actually the denomination of Gurugram. Today, the city boasts of sprawling shopping malls, commercial spaces and business areas and is often referred to the unofficial mall capital of India; it is also home to one of the biggest shopping malls in the country known as the Ambience Mall. The city is famous for its annual fair called Surajkund fair which showcases the finest handlooms, handicrafts and rich Indian cuisines. The city is dotted with weekend destinations like Sultanpur Lake and the Sohna, which lies on the outskirts of the city Dhankot, Saiyad, Ata Malab, Sanghel, Ujina are some of the historic places in the vicinity of the city. Sultanpur Lake Bird Sanctuary is about 10 km from Gurgaon and Sohna a tiny town famous for its sulphur springs and other places of tourist interest. The climate of the city is not much different from the northern plains and the summers are hot with the mercury shooting up to 43 degree Celsius. The summer season begins in April and ends in July followed by the monsoon season which starts in mid July to mid September, the temperature is comparatively a bit lower but humid conditions prevail during this season. Winter season is cool with the temperature range of about 25 degrees to the minimum of 10 degree Celsius. The winter season stays from December to February.
