Transport Options

Ayodhya is very well-connected via rail and road. Lucknow is the nearest airport to Ayodhya. You can also land in Prayagraj, Gorakhpur or Varanasi airports and take a cab to Ayodhya. The International airport in Faizabad (for Ayodhya) is scheduled to open in December 2023. Other easier options to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi from other cities in the state is by taking the UPSRTC buses or other private buses. You can also travel by rail to reach Ram Janmabhoomi. Reach either the Ayodhya junction or the Faizabad junction. Various Ram Janmabhoomi packages will take you from your city to Ayodhya. The costs of the packages vary according to the facilities offered and the cities covered. Most private companies offering Ram Janmabhoomi packages cover various other cities of Uttar Pradesh and can be customised.


Timings

There are two Ram Janmabhoomi visitation time slots – morning and evening. The morning time earlier was from 7.30 AM to 11.30 AM. But the time has now been extended by one-and-half hours for both the slots. Now, you can visit Ram Janmabhoomi temple from 6:00 AM to 11.30 AM and 2:00 PM till 6:00 PM. There is a morning ‘Aarti’, an afternoon ‘Aarti’ and one in the evening. The evening ‘Aarti’ is held at 6.30 PM. You need valid government ID proof to attend it.


Best Time to Visit

The weather of Ayodhya is mostly comfortable for most part of the year. There may be occasional heat or cold waves during summers and winters. Things to Keep in Mind While you are in Ram Janmabhoomi

Entry to the Ram Janmabhoomi temple is free. There are lockers within the premises to keep your valuables and possessions. You may need to pay for the locker facilities. Photography is not allowed in the prayer hall or the sanctum sanctorum of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi tirth kshetra. You may inform the authorities and take permission to click photographs from outside the temple. Since the temple is still under construction, there is no ‘prasad’ food or meals. Accommodations are easily available around Ram Janmabhoomi. You will find hotels of various ranges in Ayodhya and Faizabad. Leather is not allowed inside the temple and you must take off your belts, purses and wallets. Also, mobile phones are not allowed within the Ram Janmabhoomi temple’s main hall.


Places to Visit near Ram Janmabhoomi

Faizabad

After your visit to Ram Janmabhoomi, take a quick drive to the twin city, Faizabad. This city sits beside the Ghaghra river. Once ruled by Shuja-ud-Daula, it holds relics of the magnificent architecture of the nawabs. Faizabad Museum, Moti Mahal and Bahu Begum ka Maqbara are some of the places to visit here.


Varanasi

Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world and is called the ‘place of liberation’. This holy city has numerous holy places. Almost every sweet shop sells these toothsome delights.


Kachori – Stuffed flatbreads are a speciality of North India and are often served hot. The flatbreads are stuffed with spiced lentils or boiled and crushed peas, and then deep fried. Almost every snack shop in and around Ram Janmabhoomi serves this snack.


Chaat and Dahi vada – This street food is popular all over India. The streets of Ram Janmabhoomi Ayodhya serve mouth-watering chaat. Chaat is a sweet and savoury dish of multiple ingredients such as wafers, fritters, potato cutlets, yoghurt, sauces, chutneys and spices. Dahi vada (lentil fritters dipped in yoghurt garnished with spices and sauces), on the other hand, is found on street stalls as well as in home kitchens.
